Ok...20 years ago I considered myself pretty up on brainstorming electronics but I am at a loss for this one.

We have Dish and I am attempting to hook up a DVD player upstairs in the living room. We currently have a VCR hooked up right now so Heather can show those little baby tapes to James. So...it needs to stay put. It is hooked up the old fashion way. Satellite into the VCR and coaxial coming out of the vcr into the TV.

I was just gonna use a toggle switch to go between the DVD player and VCR but the DVD player doesn't have a normal coxial type cable hook up. It only has the white, red, and yellow outputs and another similar type output opposed to the old coaxial type.

Short of using an RF mudulator, what can I do? The receiver has the white, red, and yellow open as does the DVD player but if I hook the cables up to the two, I get no picture.

Suggestions?

Wal-mart sells a dock that will let you work this out. I am lame when it comes to this stuff, so forgive the lack of terms, but I had the same situation and it cost me <$20 and 20 min.

does your tv have the RCA (red, yellow and whit) inputs?

if so you can plug it in there...just go directly from DVD to TV..than you have to toggle your ty settings from 'Cable' or "TV" to 'Video' the satellite and VCR signal would continue to work the same way.

hard question to answer cause I can;t get behind your set up and see what outputs/inputs you have? :dunno:

Older TV...no inputs on the back of the TV. Ended up just going with an RF modulator.

We bought the combo DVD/VCR player. Do NOT do this. They mess up too quickly. The DVD shot smoke out of it after only 6 months, and was "fuzzy" from about the 3rd month.

But, with what you said, my best opinion is......

- Dish to DVD player to VCR to TV

- If this setup can't be done with the RCA cables alone, it sounds like a RF modulator is in order. In this event it will be..... Dish to moduator to DVD player to VCR to TV

- OR..... Buy new DVD and VCR players with the RF connections.

Good luck.

Yes I found older TV's are not condusive to all the new componets. Surround sound system, DIsh, DVD, VCR. New TV is in order.
