The focus of this article is that supposedly the beverage of choice for "binge" drinkers is beer. Now, when I think of binge drinking I'm reminded of a frat or bachelor party or something similar where people get absolutely obliterated in a very short time. According to this report "A binge drinker was defined as someone who had five or more alcoholic drinks on at least one occasion in the last 30 days."

Well, hell, I do that at least twice a month and most people would be hard-pressed to know that I'd been drinking at all. How many guys here haven't consumed a 6-pack or more on a Saturday afternoon while just laying around the pool, or smoking brisket in the backyard, or taking down the neighbor's trees with a chainsaw?

If they're saying that "About 15 percent of U.S. adults fit that profile, and most are men", well maybe it's just because a lot of U.S. males like to drink beer. That doesn't make it binge drinking, fer fook's sake.

Now if you find yourself waking up in another state with a new tattoo and lying next to a female-like being more than once a month, you can probably consider yourself a binge drinker. Anybody else, fuhgeddaboudit.

The word "occasion" is ambigous, that's how people can make polls say anything they want. Is an "occasion" an entire day? If so, I'm sure it would be much higher then 15 percent. What adult male who likes beer hasn't consumed five beers on a Saturday. An "occasion" can be one day, one weekend, or one hour. Polls like we see on the news are simply garbage. I've seen it done in schools, you could get a poll to say 50% of Americans are racist and supported Hitler during WWII, you just have to know how to ask the question and how to interpert the results.

If I ask 100 people if they supported Satlins invasion of Germany, which helped the Americans, a great deal of them would say they supported the invasion. Then, I could print that and omit the question about the invasion and just put out a study that says 80 percent of Americans supported Stalin. Is it ethical? No. Does it happen? All the time. Controversy sells. Now CNN will have people believing they're alcoholics if they ever consumed more then 5 beers on a Saturday. Point being, disregard news polls.

Hi My Name is David and I'm an alcholic....This is crap. I'm with Clint, I was a binge drinker in college. On Friday and Saturday we would drink beer and Bourbon until we passed out, vomited or both. I have at least a couple of drinks 3-4 times a week and 5-6 on the weekends. Now most people would call that an Alcoholic, which I may be. But I'm not a binge drinker, just a constant drinker. I don't feel like I have to drink every night and sometimes go a week with out a drink ( rare occuenrces). I'm goin to go get a drink.

You're absolutely right. There's a whole lot of bad science out there and polls are the worst of the lot. The sponsor of the poll always has some vested interest in a specific result and will tailor their questions to get it. The sample numbers are usually ridiculously small. Sorry, the responses of 2000 people is not indicative of the entire US population. Especially when you call random phone numbers as they did here.

I am on the road 4 to 5 days a week, I guess I binge drink at least 4 days a week.

And today as well I had a birthday party to go to this afternoon.
