My wife let my dog out to go to the bathroom, and when he came back in he smelled like shit. Now after a half a bottle of shampoo and a baking soda mixture I read about that Mythbusters used, he is smelling much better. I've decided not to let him get on the furniture for the next couple days, but now I can at least stay in the same room as him. I kind of feel sorry for him, but it is kind of funny too.

We used to bathe our animals in tomato juice to get rid of that smell. Baking soda is probably a bit more pleasant.
I've done it twice ona dog and once on me......EEEWWWWW!!!! My dog attacked a skunk and two days later I stumbled on a mom and 3 babies. Needless to say, the mom stuck her hind end in the air and before I could turn arouns and run, I was covered. Took 3 baths in tomatoe juice to get it off me. I slept outside for 2 days, otherwise the house wouold have stunk for weeks. Thank God it was summertime. We had to throw away the tent and sleeping bag when I was done.

Thankfully I've never had the pleasure of doing that or even smelling one up close & personal.

I keep a bottle of dish washing soap with extra grease fighter for times like that. Since the spray contains a oil/grease base the soap works great.

I had a Blue Tick Coonhound that had been sprayed twice (fool me once, eh?), a bottle of Old Spice body wash worked just fine each time.
