Well tomorrow I'm heading up to Unicoi gap on the Appalachian trail for a nice little get away. Taking some choice smokes and some Black Dog coffee along for the ride. I'll post pics when I get back, if I remember to take any.

I'm jealous! Should be nice up there about now with some cooler temps at night.

I'll be interested in hearing how dry the creeks and springs are up there this fall.

Have fun and be careful!

Well Friday started with a tropical depression crapping on our heads as we did 1,000 feet vertical for the first mile and a half, but after that the weather was beautiful. Drought has hit the mountains pretty hard this year as the leaves are turning yellow/brown way too early but they'll survive. Poison Ivy was rampant (very intrusive during drought conditions), but the views were still awe inspiring.

PS To Ted

Water sources were few and far between and if we hadn't had the rain on Friday I think some of those might have been questionable. Blue Mtn shelter was good, Low Gap was good, Hog Pen was dry as a bone, Neel Gap has the store for water, Woody Gap was good but we had the truck there. Lows felt like mid to upper 50's. Perfect.

Sounds like you had a good time! That spring at Blue Mountain and the creek at Low Gap are pretty reliable, but it's been so dry I didn't know what you'd find.

I'm going to have to get out for a nice extended backpacking trip this winter.

Let me know when you want to go. One thing I learned this weekend was that I needed to get into better shape, so that's on my to do list. Definitely going back this fall though.

LOL...nothing like humping a pack up and over those Georgia ridges, is there? The AT seems to like going straight up the side of the mountains, rather than using switchbacks. Stairmaster is the best thing I've found for getting in shape for backpacking.

Sounds awesome Dub!

I used to live on the trail here in MD (South Mountain). One of these days I'd like to hike the entire trail...though maybe in segments.

Looks great. It's hard to find that much green around here.
