I was in Maryland visiting my son. I spent a couple of nights in Silver Spring. I assume that there are some military hospitals close by, because i saw quite a few young men who were missing legs and arms. I was in the elevator at my hotel when a young man walked in to the elevator. He had an artificial leg. He said "good morning sir" (made me feel real old). I asked him if he was in the military. he was. I thanked him for what he did for me and my family. He said "you are welcome". He looked younger than my 2 sons. as he got off, I said so long and good luck. he thanked me, and got off the elevator. The tears started flowing. This kid looked younger than my 22 year old sons. I shouldnt call him a kid, because he is a man who had done more for his country than anyone that i know. I dont want to ramble on, but I am so damned proud of our soldiers. We are the greatest country in the world, and we can thank our volunteer soldiers for it.

excellent thoughts Ron

what a lot of people lose sight of is that nearly 90% of American families are directly effected by the current conflict. I saw a pretty powerful display of this a few months back, really put stuff into perspective for me

At the Bronco game this Sunday, halftime was a tribute to the military. It was awesome and very inspiring. We have a pretty large tailgate party with a bus our company owns......every soldier that walked by, I invited over for a beer and a hamburger and thanked them for their service. My 18 year old son was there also and most of them looked younger than him. It is truly amazing what these young people sacrifice for our freedom!!

As a former member of the Armed Forces and a firm supporter of the troops I say here here. We had a send off of one of our neighbors Friday night (he is leaving at 5:30 this evening) for a six month deployment. As I told him and I will say it again, we here at home (to steal a phrase from Jack Nicholson), sleep under the very blanket of freedom which they provide. We owe it to them to care for their loved ones, to support them fully and respect the job they are called to do.

Got this in an email at work.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve - is
someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to
"The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my
life."

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no
longer understand it.

Thanks Ron.

I get the same lump in my throat everytime I go to the Vietnam Memorial and see/talk to survivors there.

God Bless the military and the job that they have to do.
