Well my desktop bit the dust on Wed night. The motherboard beeps indicate a bad CPU. In addition my DVD-RW drive has been giving me problems the past couple of months. I guess I could spend $150 or so to replace the bad components ... but if someone knows of any hard to pass up deals out there, I might consider just getting a new PC. My son could then upgrade his system with my memory, HD and video card.

Funny you guys mention Dell. I have been one of their fans for many years due to the excellent customer support and service we have received, but today was trying. I just spent the afternoon on their web site trying to configure/customize a fairly robust PC that needed XP Pro for stability and compatibility reasons. In order to get XP, I was forced into certain lines of desktops, none of which were customizable to the degree required. In every single case I could not get one of the following with the packages offered: CPU, discrete graphics or sound cards. It seems that most choices are geared to force new purchases into the Vista realm. Interestingly enough, I took a quick trip to MPC (Micron) and Lenovo (IBM) just to check their offerings, but found the same issues.

I thought this was about cigars too until I saw the sub-forum.

I need to get a new machine too. I was toying with building one, just never got around to it.

I'd check dell, they have some tough to beat deals especially if you don't want to build your own.
UTJason77 works for Dell computers and they always have insane deals plus he can normally acquire coupons for additional discounts on top of the advertised prices. Plus they have a huge selection of scratch and dent items that most of the time you can't even find the damage. I'm sure that he wouldn't have a problem helping out a fellow BOTL. Thats just my .02 worth.

IMO, if you can wait, then I'd wait. There are bound to be some killer deals out there this shopping season.
