Bro's, I'm thinking about getting into range shooting. I have always been interested in the Rem. 700 .300, or 7MM. But there are a lot of good rifles out there. I am thininking of longer range shooting, 3-600 yards. I have shot many caliber guns before, I think a .338 might be to big and to expensive to shoot. How about smaller rounds like .223, or .240? I'm looking at doing a synthetic stock setup with a heavier barrel for target. Thoughts?

.223 has gotten expensive too. With the war and the price of metals going up....I miss the prices of 3-4 years ago.

Anyway....Do you have any buddies with the type of rifles you're thinking about buying? The Rem 700 is an awesome rifle and I prefer it in .308. Just have to make sure you get some good glass to go with it. Quite a few aftermarket options to go with it too.

Have you checked out snipershide.com? There's a wealth of information there.

If you are going to do target practice, I am sure at some point you will want to go hunting. Either the Remmington 700 or a Sako would be great. .308, 243, 270 or 30-06 would be good, although the 06 might be too strong.

When I hunt, i have my 700 and a Thompson TCR single shot that I use. MY tcr has a 243, a 270, a 308 and a 30-06 barrel to give me the change I need.

It is a topic I am just researching. I have been into the Sniper thing for a long time and it is a topic that i would like to actually get into, I mean shooting not Sniper. But it is only research at this point, I won't be actually buying anything for quite a while.
