For bourbon I have found the Eagle Rare 17 is very good and the Pappy van Winkle 20 is outstanding. Woodford Reserve and Four Roses are both nice as well. If you can find it and you need to clean your pipes out, get some George T. Stagg!

Basically...I am looking to try something whilst I smoke...My tastes tend to run to the strong side...lg...lfd...JDN 1970 Antano(everyday smoke along with carlos torano signature and virtuoso lines)...basically strong and flavorful...so any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated...so thank you for the suggestions and thoughts posted so far...len

My tastes are similar to yours and I'm a fan of the Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare and Pappy VanWinkle bourbons. I drink a bit more scotch whiskey though and lean toward the Laphroaig and Lagavulin lines as they seem much fuller and peatier and stand up to a stronger cigar. You might want to try a couple of rums as well, like Zaya or Pyrat.

Have yet to try the Eagle Rare 17 or Pappy 20 yr old although I have a couple bottles of each. Stagg is the bomb, haven't corked the 2007 release yet....will for Christmas.

If your looking to try some single malt scotch, Glenfiddich 15yr is excellent. Very smooth with a strong enough flavor to enjoy with a cigar, cost about $45. I picked up a bottle of Dalmore 10yr for $33, a little stronger than the Glenfiddich but I really enjoyed it. You might want to try something in this range before buying an expensive bottle. I haven't tried any of the JW blended scotches yet. Good luck and enjoy.

Just because something is high priced doesn't mean you will automatically enjoy it. Rather than spend $180 on one glass paperweight ... I'd suggest trying several different mid-priced bottles.

Scotch is a far different animal from JD. Try Aberlour, GlenLivet or McCallan 12yr. These are all single malts and are in the $25-$40 range. They are easy to drink straight up or with one ice cube.

For blended scotch, JW Black @ $25 is just fine ... or JW Gold @ $60 if you really want to splurge. JW Blue is way overpriced.

For bourbon, I'd recommend Van Winkle 12 or 20yr, Blanton's or Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel. All in the $40-$50 range
