I recently bought a 600w Pioneer surround sound system and am overwhelmed with the choices of listening modes. What do most use for the following 3 situations?

1. TV
2. DVD's
3. Music

I have the following choices:
-Dolby Pro Logic 4.1
-Dolby Pro Logic II Movie in 5.1
-Dolby Pro Logic II Music in 5.1
-Stereo

And that is not even touching the surface in regards to the advanced button that gives me even more choices! I am a novice at surround sound and was wondering what the majority use for those 3 choices I listed.

David, For tv and dvd go with Pro logic II Movie, then switch over to 5.1 pro logic music for well music.

I bought a Yamaha recceiver about 2 years ago, Good god this thing must have 30 different settings for all of that surround type stuff, it took me months with the manual and playing to figure them all out and their uses, So don't feel stupid for asking. You need a masters degree in electronics to figure some of that stuff out.

If it's a new receiver, go with stereo for music. It runs a cleaner signal from the source (CD, MP3) to the speakers. Most music (unless it's a HDCD) is recorded in stereo, not 5.1.

For movies, play with it for different kinds of movies. Action, drama, etc. Don't think of it as work, it's fun!

5.1 for movies but if you use 5.1 for tv you will still hear stuff behind you and to the sides i dont know about you but when im watching the news or something else i prefer stereo. stereo also for music just try defferent ones that people have said hear and you will know what you like better
