Looking at these two cameras, both are very similar 10.0 vs. 10.2 mega pixels, similar features and such, prices are within $50.00 of each other so that's not an issue. However, the more I read, the more confused I get, anybody have any hands on experience comparing the two?

Thanks,
Wade

A friend of mine is over tonight and reading this. He has the Canon XTI and loves it. He has always love the Canon line. Never had any problems with them, but knows their customer support is great.

And he uses his camera everyday for work!

I have the XTI. Most of your pros shoot Canon. In the digital world there are two schools of thought, Canon or Nikon. I like Canon but others swear by Nikon. In the big scope of things the body is not where you are going to drop dollars, it is on the glass. I like Canon lenses, so I bought the Canon. Both are great cameras! The Canon XTi has this cool self-cleaning feature that works well, I am not sure if the Nikon has this feature. I vote Canon!!!

Yes the Canon lens will fit the new model, but you will have to factor in the 1.6x crop ratio, so a 35mm will actually be more like 56mm lens.

We shoot Canon exclusively for our photo business, but I would not have any trouble recommending Nikon to someone as well.

Either model, you will not go wrong.

I have a Nikon and had a cannon and have personally used the d80. I will never shoot with anything but a Nikon. I love them and think they shoot great. But most of your money will go towards lenses anyway so if your wife's fit, go with cannon.

Well that's pretty interesting, never would have imagined that. So her 300mm is now a 480, cool, but her 26 is now 44.8, which basically means it's not a wide angle anymore, oh well.

Thanks for all the input guys, I think we've pretty much decided on the Canon then just because of the lens capability.
