I've been looking at doing the same think Tbone. My basement is unfinished now and once I frame out the partitions and put up the dry wall, it will measure about 20' X 22' to 25'. I live in Central PA so the air exchange pretty much has to be a filtered system so as not to loose heat. So far, I'm leaning toward using 4 inline fans and a large air filter system designed for smoke removal. But the filters that look viable are over $800. The duct work and fans aren't too much. What type of filter system are you looking at that is only a couple hundred bucks? I want to cycle the air in the room at least 4X per hour at a minimum.

If you take a look at this site and how he did his system, it may be a better option for you cost wise.

I have always thought that exhausting the smoke and exchanging it with fresh air is definitely the way to go. Recycled air will become stale and still have an odor in my opinion.

You're right Mark. I didn't take the time this am to read the site, but I'll check it out tonight while I'm smoking in my unfinished basement. I like the idea of heating the air that's being introduced into the room. That would of course eliminate having to keep the filters clean like my planned system would require.

His site was very helpful. There were a few changes I would make though. I'm currently looking into a quieter fan, although it will be mounted outside of the room. He also has some great tips(like mounting the fan outside the room). I'm not even going to worry about a smoke eater. They are pricey and I have heard from more than one that you get a stale smoke smell in the room after a while. My room will also be completely insulated. This weekend I will start cleaning and pitching alot of the $hit Ive stored in the basement. My first step to my MAN CAVE.:smokingbo

If you size the exhaust fan slightly larger that the intake, wouldn't that create negative pressure so that a drop ceiling would work?
