Does aShenyone here consider themselves "classic rock savy"? I ask because I was riding in the car the other night when a commercial for the Lynard Skynard tour came on the radio. My fiancee turned to me and said "Id LOVE to see them in concert." What makes this statement funny is the fact that she loves their early work. I turned to her a smiled saying something like "well that might be kind of hard." She asks why and calls me a liar after I told her that it's not the same group of people performing, due to the fact that half of the band was KILLED IN A PLANE CRASH. So this sparked a whole argument and so she calls her dad who proceeds to tell her that I'm an idiot (bad history there) and that yes they are the real Lynard Skynard and that there was no crash. I printed the info off of the internet and showed her. She tells her dad (who I'm guessing had googled it in the meantime) and he went off on some tangent about how he never said this or said that. You have to understand his type... He one of those veterans (which I totally respect) that think he's infallible because he's had "life experience" (I'm 22). He's the same clown that thinks Glass Onion was not a Bealtes song. So I just got off the phone with her and she told me that her father had some radio DJ call her to report that he was right and I was wrong. Yep he's one of those guys. Now did I take a bottle of crazy pills this morning, or am I right? All I want to know is - Is the band that is touring now the same one from 1974 when Sweet Home Alabama was recored?

There is very few original members if any. Last thing I heard is that the bass player recently died or is the only original left. The original singer was replaced by his brother. Identical voice. I also heard he was in the original band before they "made it". But, the anwser is NO it isn't the SAME exact band. It does sound quite identical. It is definately worth going to if you love skynard. You will find it hard to tell the difference live. I am only 24. But I know more than some that were alive when they rocked extra hard. I am a dj also.

Don't tangle with you FIL because it'll piss the lady off! The way I see it, screw him and the horse he came in on! Go see Skynard and have fun and you could even tease the girl by say oh look there is the original band:cool:

The core of Lynyrd Skynyrd- singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Gary Rossington, guitarist Allen Collins, bassist Leon Wilkeson, and drummer Bob Burns- is formed at a high school in Jacksonville, FL, initially as the group, 'My Backyard.' The name is later changed to Lynyrd Skynyrd to immortalize school gym teacher Leonard Skinner, a legendary antagonist of longhaired students. Ronnie Van Zant enters into a brief marriage with Nadine.

Q: How many original members are still with Skynyrd?

A: There are currently two original members touring with the band -- guitarist Gary Rossington, and keyboardist Billy Powell.

Three of those original guys are dead now. Your FIL is talking out his ass. Though I don't believe that anybody fully understands all the permutations of Lynyrd Skynrd, Rossington Collins, and 38 Special...

Word to the wise...pick you battles carefully.

Being "right" usually isn't worth it.

Yeah, what Wasch said. Based on what you've written, she sounds like "Daddy's Little Girl" -- and that's a hard thing to battle against. :boxing:

Find comfort in knowing Dad is a stubborn bastard and let him win some battles. He'll feel he's the big dick on the block and he may start cutting you some slack. :peckkiss:
