For Xmas, we bought my boss a 200 stick, glass top humi. I was not consulted regarding the buy or I would have stopped the glass top madness. The top has a wood trim around an analog hydrometer.

We have been having problems keeping the humidity above 59%. I have placed beads in there, but it won't bump up, unless I wet the inside. Yesterday, after a staff meeting, I really checked out the seal again on the lip, using the dollar test. It has a great seal around the base of the lid, but I also saw a small lifted space around the top of the lid. BAAAMMMM it hit me. We have an area that needs some type of sealant around it to make the unit work. My boss loves the humi, since we all gave it to him with an engraved plaque. No one wants to get him another one, so we are going to have to save this one.

My question is, which sealant would be the best to seal the area between the wood and glass to make it a tight seal and not taint the smokes/humi with the odor? Anyone help me, Ron, Wade, Arlin, Mark? hehe

Thanks,

Bill

PS, if it would have been up to me, raising $500 for his humi, smokes, lighter and cutter, I would have bought him an avallo!!

AB,

Check out Grainger.com or McMaster Carr-any of their USDA rated RTV sealers should work. You might want to transfer the stix to another humi (maybe yours) :halfgrinw while the sealer cures.

Silicone should work just fine. Available at any pet store in the fish aisle.

Dumb question, you have utilzed a calibrated digital hygrometer to confirm that the humidity is what you think it is, right? Because if you guys are going by that analog on top, you are probably in for a nasty surprise. I had a buddy from work who did this and kept refusing to get a digital hygro. I let him borrow one of mine and it turned out that the "sub-50%" RH he was struggling with was actually closer to 80%.

Sorry, I know this question gets asked every time this type of question comes up, but it really is that important.

Not a stupid question, but I have a digital one that is calibrated. I got involved and that was the first thing done. The analog one is actually pretty close. Thanks guys.. The issue is the lifting of the wood and no seal to keep the humidity in...
