Just got back from 4 days in Monterey, where my Dad is in the hospital.
After 4 days of every test you can imagine, more blood draws than anyone should have to go through, multiple MRIs and a full-body Nuclear scan, this afternoon they finally think they know what is going on.
It looks like his artificial hip (replaced 17 years ago) is infected with a staph infection. So rather than replace the entire hip again (which would entail removing it, and waiting 6 weeks until the infection is gone), they will remove the ball and lining, clean out all the infected tissue they can find, replace the ball and lining, and hope for the best. This should get rid of all the infection.
If not, then they will go the more invasive route of removing the hip completely, waiting the 6 weeks, and do another prosthesis.
So I came back home so I can work this week, and my wife is headed down. Once we know the scheduling, I will probably go down again.
Life really has come full circle - here I am, feeding my Dad one bite at a time, helping him drink water, etc.
First thing I did when I got back (after kissing the wife) was fire up a Gurkha and relax a bit.
I'm pooped - I'm heading off to bed.
