Why the heck is it, when the forecast calls for a 30% chance of rain, the icon that Weather.com uses is rain? Doesn't that mean there's a 70% chance it's not going to rain?

What icon should they use? If they used a no-rain icon (since the probability is higher it won't rain) and it rains - you would think of them as unreliable in forecasting.

It seems like a 30% chance of rain, when forecasted by Weather.com, almost always means a 100% chance of rain in reality. They always underestimate.

Actually when they say there will be a 30% chance of rain today, it means that 30% of the "viewing area" will get rain. Not that your area has a 30% chance of rain.

I use weather.com in conjunction with the noaa site and intellicast.com to accurately predict the weather.

Intellicast is great for seeing radar views.

I just go out side and look up. If it is raining then I know it is raining. :glassesgr If it is clear then it is clear. Then there is my wife who likes to hose me down once and a while..... At least she doesn't do it every time I smoke.

Hey djustice, good place to live for "weatherwatchin" eh? Did you avoid the storms tonight?
No kiddin... you've always got to watch the weather around here! The storm that came through and dropped that F4 tornado on Picher dropped pingpong size hail on us. I have no idea how my truck or house kept from having some damage but besides a few really small dings and a couple of upturned shingle edges we're good to go.

Luckly nothing last night just some distant lightning and thunder.
