Have any of you ever done these? I am on the mailing list for a big market reseach company that is only about 3 minutes from my office. Every few weeks I get an email with their up coming focus groups and the basic qualifications. They do a phone interview to make sure i fall into the criteria set forth by their client. They pay between $150 and $200 for roughly an hour of your time. So the past three times I have gone in, including today, they have over booked the study, and let me go home with out doing the focus group. Of course the reason i am posting this, is that they paid me anyway. And I am still elligible for another one, anytime, as I did not acctually do this one. normally you can only do 1 every 3-6 months. They also have food and drinks. So today at lunch I drove 3 minutes, had someone buy me lunch and pay me $175, to look at tail walk by for 20 minutes. :eyebrow: This was supposed to be about HDTVs, which I know nothing about, but the interview questions are basic and I know how to answer so they let me in. hehe sneaky.

Here's a link to the company I went to. They are in several cities.

I've done a few of those...but my wife has done a TON of them. She typically has to participate in them, and they usually last about an hour to an hour-and-a-half, and she gets around $150-ish.

But you're right, the best is when they overbook...and give you the cash just for showing up!

A good friend of ours is a manager at one of the market research groups, a couple of times a year they ask me to sit on one for business owners or CEOs. The pay is a lot better than $150 but the food sucks. Sat in one for cigar smokers a couple of years ago and mentioned to the clients as we were leaving, they ought to give out free samples.........he did, handed me a Macanoodle. I thought it would be rude to give it back so I waited until I saw a homeless guy and gave it to him.

You think you get a good deal when they pay you a couple hundred bucks for the hour, but they get millions of dollars worth of advice from you guys. Everybody wins! They really benefit a TON from these things.
