my son just signed up with sprint. 500 minutes mobile phone a month. free after 7pm.
unlimited data and text. $30 a month. sounds like decent deal. saves about $1000 over the 2 year contarct when compared to the iphone.

Thats the plan I am on. Unlimited data and they had an unlimited txt promotion.

I use my treo for internet by running software on it and plugging it in via USB. The only reason I didn't go for an iPhone is cause I am paying so little a month. I just added $7 a month for insurance on the phone and I pay around $40/month after taxes etc.

after drooling over the iphone for the last year, and having an orgasm when they announced the iphone 3g, my son just had to tell me about the cheap sprint plan along with the Mogul phone. Damn, thats a lot of phone and service for the $. Then I call Matt from Avallo, and he tells me that he has the sprint/mogul package, and he loves it. BALLS, i dont know what the hell i am going to get now.

Ron, what it comes down to (IMHO) is this:

Do you WANT the full-blown Internet experience in your pocket? Because that's what you get with the iPhone and you just don't get with any other mobile phone. The Sprint Insight is nearly the equal of the iPhone in primary features (although it's nowhere near as "polished") except for the Internet web browsing.

Is that important to you?

Are the other remaining differences (like visual voicemail, etc) important to you?

And, most importantly, is it worth the extra PER MONTH that you'll have to pay through at&t?

first, i want it to work well as a phone
next in line would be access to gmail. Matt tells me that he is very happy with his regarding email access.
next would be the internet. checking BOTL, ebay, my website. i would say that this would be more for fun with light use.

i love my sons iphone. just trying to be a bit more frugal in my semi retirement

Well as big an Apple-fanatic as I am, I've decided that I'm not going to get an iPhone...but that's because my wife is getting one, and I don't see the need for 2 of them in one house!

But regardless of that, I got to thinking: I'm around the Internet all day at work and all night at home, so I can't justify spending any money to have the Internet in my pocket for that 30-minute commute to work (when I'm driving, anyways) when I don't have Internet access. I can't imagine I'd get much use out of it. Shoot, I barely even use any minutes on my phone itself!

Okay Ron -

Ignore all that stuff I said before...because I went ahead and bought an iPhone 3G

I figured that by canceling my home phone (which we haven't used in years; I don't even know the number!) that we could easily afford another iPhone. So we bought tow--his&hers--at the Apple store. Only took 2.5 hours of standing in line LMAO!!!
