I just commandeered a mini wine cooler (I think 5 bottle capacity) that I intend to use merely as a temperature buffer for my current small desktop humi, however, there is a plastic odor inside that I can't seem to shake.

I tried washing it with mild dish soap and letting it air out for a day or two, and that worked.....for a day or two. After closing it up and turning it on, that plasticy odor came back within a few days.

Next, I tried washing it with dish soap again, but then followed that up with a baking soda/warm water solution and wiped down the inside. I then left a little baking soda in a cup in there after letting it air dry. This worked for a while, but after about 2 weeks the plastic odor was back and potent as ever.

My question is, how do I get rid of this smell for good? Or, is it safe to stick my humi in there with the odor without fear of the odor seeping through the seal on my desktop humi and getting in and fouling up my cigars?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me!

I personally wouldn't put in any cigar into a humi that smelled like plastic. Be patient...let it run for a few more days...occasionally letting it air out. I would imagine that the smell will run off the longer the frig runs.

i plugged mine in and let it run with the door wide open.. i placed a fan outside the fridge blowing into the open unit. i also placed bowls of baking soda throughout the fridge. i ran it like that for a week.. i imagine i could have eliminated at least one of those things, but im anal, and chose to do all 3. but hey, it worked.

You can never be too careful with your cigars. Good advice.
