Why aren't we talking about the kid that shot another because he was gay or that kids parents?
If a gal had been raped would we say it was expected because of the way she was dressed or that she was wearing makeup? Is it acceptable to just assume kids that are gay will be killed if they come out of the closet. I'm guessing that kid couldn't have covered being gay up regardless of how he dressed.

There is something wrong with that whole story, but I think how the story was written and what people are getting offended about is saddening. Shocker to me is the hate crime and I'm no less offended than if the target were black, female, Jew, Polish, Mexian or E.T. himself.

Mitch,

I didn't read the story yet, and I'm sure I'll agree with you once I read it. I just noticed the comments on it and felt compelled to make my own. At least one local politician here has had serious problems by doing exactly that. Mea culpa.

Oh the shooter has some serious problems of his own. I also feel for the family but the kid that shot the supposed gay kid is going to get his I have a feeling. So that's a non issue to me. The issue is the fact the deceased's parents are making an attempt to hold the school responsible for not changing his attire. My soon to be wife is a teacher and in her school they can only enforce what clothes are acceptable. With that said, there are no guidelines saying that boys can only wear boy clothes and vice versa. So as long as the girl or boy wear clothes acceptable by school policy there is nothing a teacher or the school can do. Think about it this way. If the family of the deceased caught wind of their son being forced to wear boys clothes and remove his make up, I speculate that they would be filing a lawsuit for discrimination on grounds that he can wear whatever he wants. After talking to the woman about this, it sounds like the lawsuit will go no where. It's a sad tragedy, but more sad that the family is trying to capitalize on it in a way.

Oh i def feel for both parties involved... I was really commenting on the parents attempts and their thoughts at this point. How they are trying to get paid by passing blame to the school as opposed to the other kid and parenting in general.

Well the other kid is under 18 right? Meaning the parents can file civil suit against his parents and they will most likely win, for not having the gun locked up. Either way it's shitty situation. We wore some weird stuff in high school too, and the jocks did not like it. I had black hair and bangs hanging over my eyes, black fingernail paint and knee high doc martin boots. Only difference with us is we were tough enough to fight back, oh yeah and we weren't gay.

here is the original story

To me the law suit is opportunistic and I don't buy into the school being responsible. I'm fairly sure if the kid grew a mustache, and dressed like a biker he'd still come off “Village People” and not straight. I guess I see the point of the story in this regard, I just couldn't get past the notion that it's somehow accepted that if a kid is gay it’s to be expected. In School I was the jock with all the weird friends whom I protected. I wrestled, did debate and chess club the same year. Oh yea, and it was the 80’s so straight guys dressed gay, so who could tell.
