I've not seen it here but a few select times, but I surf a few other forums about trucks, guns, cigars etc... And when someone surfs the forum a few times (days, weeks, months) and feels comfortable about becoming a member. Then they post a question regarding a problem they've encountered they get bashed to hell when asking for direction or advice about something that might have been asked before. I know almost every forum has a search function and people love to point that out. But how many times have you purchased or received a new "toy" and didn't read the directions or threw them away and then have to ask a question. I've done it plenty of times and will do it 1,000 times again it's human nature. And there are times a manual won't provide the answer you need, and I know that someone has encountered the same and or similar problem I have and the internet is a huge wealth of knowledge. I also know it sucks to be repetitive and you may feel like your talking to a complete dope.

But if your answer helped just one person he/she will always come back without fear of being beaten over the head for asking what some might consider a stupid question. Yet the stupid question is the one nobody ever ask.

Let the comments good, bad etc roll "because someone will pick out spelling errors, grammar and that's something I already expect. i'm far from perfect and never expect to achieve perfect status.

Here are a few examples I can think of...

1. You get a new cell phone and think ah I know how to use this and ditch the manual only to encounter a problem.
2. Setting up a humidor (we know everyone has a different way of doing this) so you ask a simple question and get bashed..I know it happened to me on another forum.
3. Someone looking for a shortcut that always gets asked by noobs

I know this forum has a FAQ you click before you register which is great, and another reason I frequent this site it's a great site, and I appreciate all the BOTL's that have made it this way and I applaud the people who no matter what take that few extra minutes to answer that question no matter how big or small the question might be.

One of the reasons that I like this forum so much is that the sort of newbie bashing that happens at other sites doesn't happen here much. For the most part people here are pretty understanding and are willing to help out without making someone feel like an idiot for asking a question. For the most part, the only time I ever take issue with someone is when they just come straight out and ask about sources for cuban cigars. I'm not sure what prompted your post about this, but I hope you haven't been flamed here.

This is a different forum than most. RARELY do you ever see someone getting bashed, a flame war, the "search" comment. This site is composed of men, and run as such, we treat each other as we'd like to be treated. It's nice.

I was lurking on a gun forum and seen a few people get flamed while seeking advice/help...

Well there was a time I replied to a post and seen it wasn't headed in the right direction so I exited left...

I see it like this if you've made something or installed anything etc, and know how it works and what you did or others did to make it work almost 100% error free, you should be proud and help the next soul whom wishes to use your ideas to make there smoking experience better. 1 time in 2yrs doesn't bother me, yet others might turn cheek and never return...just my .02

I've seem many get the 3rd degree, but curiosity killed the cat... I enjoyed CC's when I had access to them!

Yes I knew after a few post most BOTL where more than willing to offer advice or whatever was needed to allow the next person to enjoy cigars. And it's evident it's been a custom of BOTL's past and present.

We've certainly had a few guys that got destroyed, and deserved every bit of it. But they were the "guy" that shows up to the party and acts like its his house, then spillsa drink and said it was the host's fault. Guess what...that guys gets his ass kicked. The guy that shows up with his own six-pack and politley asks where the bottle opener is, and offers to help cleanup a spill, gets invited back.

This is the reason I hang out here now instead of other cigar forums. Even the CBid forums, though fun, tend to bash the crap out of questions or ideas they think are stupid, and you hear a dozen responses like "when you've been here as long as some of us...." blah blah. I got kinda frustrated there, so now I just hang out here :)

I joined this forum and another at about the same time, but spent most of my time over there as it seemed to be more active. You guys are starting to win me over and I'm posting and spending more time over here now. Not that I'm any great prize or anything, but I do appreciate what you have to offer.

I'm glad someone besides me remembers what it really stands for. And knows what carbon paper is.
I honestly thought it meant Cover Copy, since Carbon Copies haven't been used for 25 years . Oh well let me go over to my Icebox and get some Oleomargerine out for my toast.
