If it is unlocked it will recognize and/or be able to utilize any network SIM card.

So in short, I believe you could take an Iphone to Verizon and so on!

Nope... Verizon has no resource for other carrier phones. YOU might be able to use that phone if it was unlocked with tmobile, att, nextel... I believe they all have sim cards

Sprint and Verizon use CDMA technology so their phones can be switched between networks.

Almost every other carrier uses GSM technology, including most (if not all) foreign countries. Therefore, there phones are interchangeable.

Ron,

In the long run you'd be better off with an unlocked phone. You have way better programs and options available. You can unlock/jailbreak a 1st gen iphone. But the dev-team hasn't been able to unlock it as of yesterday.

Your "crackberry" provided it's not on Verizon is unlocked.

seems the answer is NO.
Thats correct. The iPhone only works on GSM networks, and Apple has a deal with ATT right now so thats what its with them. People have just unlocked them to also work on T-Mobile. If they were to bring it to Sprint/Verizon they would have to put a different radio in it, so the hardware would have to be redesigned.
