I've just purchased a couple of dozen Gurkha Grand Reserve torpedos, which come in individual glass tubes sealed with wax. Since I plan to keep these for a while, I'd like to get some advice on how to store them. If I keep them only in their tubes, not in a humidor or alternative, how long will they last? And if I do put them in a humidor, should I leave them in their sealed tubes, just take the lids off the tubes, or put the cigars in "naked"?

Any advice from more experienced members would be appreciated,

Thanks very much,
Mark

Am I right in assuming that those are the cognac INFUSED Gurkhas?

I have about 4 of them left, and I keep them in their glass tubes in my humidor. They are wax sealed so the seal should be good, but if it is not, being in my humidor will ensure proper humidity and temp. If you take them out of the glass tube and put them in the humi with your other smokes the cognac flavor will impart on your other smokes, and you don't want that. If you are going to take them out of the tube I would get a small humidor just for those Gurkhas. The tubes are capped then wax sealed so the seal should be good for quite some time, but putting them in a humi takes the guess work out of it, especially if you have a "couple dozen" of them. Personally, I'd get a small 50 count humi and keep them stored in the glass tubes.

Thanks for the advice, Craig. I'm particularly interested in their normal "shelf-life" in the tube because last summer I bought a few of these cigars in Chicago and thought they were rather dry; I don't know how long they'd been under the counter, but they certainly weren't in a humidor. In early October, I bought these 24 from an online cigar supplier and found the first ones I smoked, a couple of weeks ago, to be very pliable and emininently smokable, so I assume that they had been properly stored in a warehouse/humidor. Since the remainder of them have now been out their original environment for a few weeks, I had to ask this question about storage, fearing that I might damage or insult them by mismanaging them. I'll pick up a "dedicated" humidor a.s.a.p.

The wax seal and the glass should make a good seal, but having them in a humidor will ensure the proper humidity. I don't think you should be too concerned about them being out for a few weeks, as long as they haven't been in the sunlight or exposed to temps above 70 degrees.

Now why don't ye jump to the introductions forum and tell us a tad about yerself.
Yeah, what he said..hehe.

i keep them in their tube. i also keep them in a separate humidor. the wax caps do not seal in all the aromas, so, why risk 'infusing' my other smokes!

I have a couple small 20-ct humidors that I use to store various infused sticks. I use multiple ones because Javas tend to cross-infuse other sticks I've been told.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I've just visited the Introductions forum to give a few pertinent (or impertinent) details about myself. BTW, Craig, there is something that beats a good cigar and a round of golf -- a good cigar and a GOOD round of golf; but that may be pushing the envelope of reality a bit too far, so let's be thankful for your original observation.

HAHAHA, well to me they usually aren't GOOD rounds of golf(or good enough rather). As an 11 handicap I can shoot a 78 and still be unhappy with it(for some reason), at least I know the cigar will be good hence the signature.
