That is exactly where it comes from. Back in 2003 I bought a Volusia and found a forum similar to this dedicated to that bike. As I needed a screen name, I got to thinking, (I'd watched The Terminator the night before) and hence, The Volusianator came to mind. For some reason I dropped the "The" when I signed up here. Here's the Volusia that I had, oh, and my wife has one now to, although I've moved on to a much larger displacement bike.

You know they say if you ride, it's now if you crash but when, ride long enough and your turn's commin'. I was riding back from Chicago in April of 05 and got caught in a rain storm. I should've pulled over to let the oils get washed of the road, but wanted to keep going and make time. I hit a patch of oil in the center of the lane and got into a tank slapper, the bike laid down on the right side, slid for quite a while and that was it. Totaled. I just hurt my foot, nothing serious at all.

Already done, although not as a testament to how tough I am, but just a memory.

That's pretty awesome Wade, glad that you made it out of that one ok. That could have ended up a lot worse. How cool to be able to frame a memory like that.

Oh dude, I walked away with basically nothing. I was doing 65MPH on the highway, wearing full leathers and a full face helmet (I NEVER wear a helmet but it was like 35 degrees when I left for Chicago in the AM) When I went down, I just slid and spun, never got into a end over end tumble or anything, I think with the amount of rain on the roads, it just acted as a lubricant and kept me from going ass over teakettle. When I came to rest, I sat up and there was a bumper about two feet in front of me, the lady behind me when I lost it was able to stop just in time. Yeah, I got lucky.

In all seriousness glad you pulled out of that crash with minimum damage. Riding a bike is flirting with danger specially if you ride a crotch rocket but heavier bikes tend to be safer imo. The worst part about sliding on tarmac is the chaffing but I guess the leathers must've protected you.

I know I should wear a helmet and honestly have been trying to get myself to do it more often the last couple years. But that's one of the reasons I ride, I love the open air feeling, I rarely use a windshield. Daniyal, the only road rash I got was on my right ring finger as my glove wore a hole from the abrasion, it was maybe like 38 ring gauge in size.
