Okay, Brothers, I need your help on this one.

Someone is selling a Pendergast Humidor (similar to: http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Features/CA_Feature_Basic_Template/0,2344,12,00.html)

It's a 3500-4000ct custom made cabinet, according to a JC Pendergast appraisal it would cost roughly $4500 to build it right now if I ordered something just like this. Note the actual picture at the bottom.

He's offering it to me for $875.

Now this is about twice what I was hoping to pay for a cabinet, but more than twice the capacity and probably four times the quality.

Even if I do want to go for it, one huge problem is that it's about 6-7 hours away in northern IL. I'm not sure how I'd get the thing.

It certainly looks awesome, and I'm tempted because of the "amazing deal" aspect, but I'm also thinking is just a lot "more" than I need at this point.

What do you guys think? Is it worth figuring out a way to get this deal, or is it just so much more humi than I need that I should pass?

Just because it's a good deal dosen't mean it's what you want. Do you think you'll have $40,000 worth of cigars to fill it anytime soon? If yes then you should definately get it.

I know, I know. That's why I'm asking...help give me the voice of reason! An "amazing deal" is one of my weaknesses. But honestly, this is a cabinet I probably won't fully utilize for a decade, if ever.

Then again...how much will a cheaper, 2000 capacity cabinet cost me, shipped? Maybe $600 new? Is uber quality worth just a little more money?

I don't know...help me, guys, lol!

If it were me I would get it, assuming all seals are good and it is as nice as it appears that is a ridiculous deal. Even if you have to fill the majority of it with empty cigar boxes to make it work, I would say that it is worth it. Just my opinion though.

No doubt it's a great deal, but I would sleep on it for a few nights, keep shopping and look at a few more cabinets. If the price is double your budget, I personally wouldn't go for it. If you have wiggle room with the budget...like two times the wiggle room, and you love the thing and upon inspection it looks sound, guess you should go for it!

I found this while searching craiglist last week sometime and if I weren't in PA I would definitely be going to get it. I don't even have space to put it in my apartment right now and the wife would bitch up a storm but that's a great deal granted the seals are good.

First off NJ I love you like a brother I've never met. But as your other thread stated about humidors I posted that I found these 2 weeks ago. Did he sell the smaller 1? I would have already bought both of these units if I know papers were not soon to follow. Luckily for you (i'm only a hour a way from the seller) I'm not able to fight this battle at this time. Listen to me. The # 1 voice on these boards(wade) already stated this is a steal. Its coming from the man of woodworking himself. My only regret for you is someone prob seen your post and is already calling him to steal it from underneath your feet. Call him, set a apointment and go get it!. Never have to worry about humidification again, come on! P.s. tell him 800 and youll come get it in the nexy few weeks!

Dude if you want an honest opinion that looks too much like a display unit you'd find in a local B&M plus with all that space you'd go insane buying sticks you don't need.

Thanks man. Yea, unfortunately the smaller one is gone (for $699) because I thought about it for too long--that one would have been perfect. Just that fact, though, makes me wonder if I should just wait for another "perfect" one as opposed to spending even more for one that is honestly too big...but I can't decide, lol.

This guy had actually posted a thread on cbid first, and generated some interest, then e-mailed those who replied. By the time I had thought it through, they had already been listed on Craigslist and the small one was gone...doh!

So thanks at least for convincing me that this IS a great deal like I thought. I think I'll spend another day or so deciding if it's the deal for me, however. It's not that I don't "have" the money, but I spent a lot on cigars in 2008 and as our Brother said above--is this a battle I want to fight right now? Since the whole cigar hobby in general is dubious in the eyes of the Mrs., perhaps not.

That being said, had this thing been only an hour away I'd have purchased it a week ago and this would be a "check out my new humidor" thread, lol.

You know after thinking about this a little bit longer I would pass on buying it. I want a taller humidor with out glass. I don't know why but I just don't want a glass door humidor. So if this is not what you want I'd pass because you'd be happier spending the money on what you want in the future.

that's what I'm leaning towards as well. If I were to descibe my perfect humidor, it would not have glass and would have a capacity of about 2000-2500. Not sure on orientation-- I suppose a tower would mean less bending.

So why not just wait for that perfect cabinet?

That is a killer deal and you would be getting a wonderful value for your money.

However, I always have to tell my wife when we are shopping. You can go broke saving money. If it's not in the budget, then it shouldn't reallly be an option. my .02

Just because something seems like a good deal, it doesn't mean that it's a good deal for you.

If your collection is growing faster than you can smoke them (I mean really faster) than a large capacity humidor is probably the smart buy. if you're still growing at a reasonable pace then you will probably never fill it and it was money wasted. It looks nice, but do you really need it?

In no way am i disagreeing with some of the brothers. But, I will ad this. If you are wondering about this unit. Please don't bother with paying 350-500 on a cheapo from cbid or CI or any other. If you are second guessing this one for 8 something then why even consider 1 @ 400 thats no where near the quality. Just wait until the next "can't beat it" offer comes by. Don't settle for some mass produced bs thats more then half the price of a hand made in Cheese country!
