"The dangers of third-hand smoke are very real - when you smoke - any place - toxic particulate matter from tobacco smoke gets into your hair and clothing."

Professor Andrew Shennan, from Tommy's, said the results had "significant implications", particularly for pregnant women, who may have stopped smoking themselves, but are still in contact with others that do.

"It is vital that women are made aware of the possible risks associated with third hand smoke, and alert those around them of the impact it could potentially have on the health of their unborn baby.

Won't somebody please think of the children!!!

It's gotten so that anyone can think up any tobacco evil imaginable, make up a half-assed "study" that wouldn't pass muster in a high school science class, send out a press release, and the public will buy it without a second thought.

Pretty soon there will be a dozen smokers left and all the world's health problems will still be blamed on them...

I'm more worried about fourth hand poo. Ya know, when you shake hands with that guy that just took a newspaper from the guy who found it in the men's room stall...

And someone in a restaurant pointed out to me the dangers of putting an unwashed lemon/lime slice into a drink. Everything we do has dangers.

WRT this issue, though, I've always been grossed out by the smell of cigarette smoke, even the smell that remained long after the smokers were gone, and how gross from smoke my clothes would be when I left a bar.

Still sounds overblown, even as the possibly right solution for the wrong reasons.

The thing I think all these studies are wrong about is the fact they're based on cigarettes and then calling it tobacco smoke. The B&M manager here is a retired Hershey Corp guy and he said they sold TONS of cocoa beans to cigarette manufacturers as filler. Not to mention all the crap they add in to make it easier to inhale and heighten nicotine absorption. I think calling cigarette smoke tobacco smoke is unfair to tobacco.

Cigars were lumped in with cigarettes long ago. Inaccurate, but that's never going to change.

I had seen this and can say little. But I am amazed at the level they are taking this just because they dislike the smell.
