  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Is there a big difference between the Cuban and the Dominican versions? I'm thinking about ordering a 5er of the legal kind, but am wondering if it's worth it.

In general, a non-Cuban cigar bearing the name of a Cuban cigar has no relation to the original. Depending on the brand, either the name was outright stolen (Cohiba), taken from Cuba by its owners during the exodus of the late '50s and early '60s (Partagas, for example), or -- in the case of Montecristo, RyJ, Trinidad, H. Upmann, etc. -- used with permission by Altadis, whose parent company owns a stake in Habanos SA.

There is no connection in terms of blend or tobacco used between a Cuban cigar and a non-Cuban cigar of the same name. To my knowledge, the makers of the non-Cuban variants don't even try to copy the original, much less succeed.

I too would be interested in what people think of the Dominican Trinidads. I have a box of the Trinidaditos (minis) and those are pretty good.

I'd like to bump this as I just found an old box of them at an obscure BM in Springfield IL. Not sure how old these are but I know they've got some significant age on them. It is a really good smoke! Aged tobacco, cedar, cocoa and still spicy as hell through the retro. I know nothing about them other than they are/were rolled at Tobacalera de Garcia. Anyone have anymore info? image.jpg
