I am tired of contacts. I am seriously thinking of getting lasik or something similar this year. I have heard horror stories and heard how great it is.

I know there are several different procedures out there, but I would like to hear from some Brothers that had it done.

Let me know what you think.

I've heard that recently there have been studies that showed the long term effects aren't that great. It's still a pretty young procedure and I'm only 25 so I'm going to hold off maybe another 8 - 12 years. Plus I have have huge eye phobia of anything close to my eyes and it take me about 20 mins to get have my eye doctor check the pressure in my eyes.

I got it done almost five years ago. I had terrible vision and now I have 20/15. I can see just as clear as the day I go it done with no sode effects. The only thing I regret is not getting it done sooner!!!

I'm only -2.5 in each eye and would love to have it done. The only thing that scares me is the slight chance something might go wrong.

texas, is there anyplace else?
I had it done about 7 or 8 years ago. I could not see the big E now I have 20/20. Their are side effects like seeing halo's or stars when looking at lights. I do have a hard time seeing at night, nothing that keeps me from driving though. My sister( who had worse eye's than mine has no side effects) and 3 coworkers all had it done at the same time as me and 2 of them wears reading glasses now the other 1 is fine.

I dont think the perscription strength matters as much as the thickness of your cornea. The way it works is they use a laser to shave and reshape your cornea to the correct shape. The perscription strength will determine how much cornea needs to be removed for reshaping. Before they could tell me if I was a candidate was they stuck a needle in my eye to measure the thickness (dont freak out though, I never felt it because of numbing drops). Only then could they tell me if I was eligible. My wifes cornea is not thick enough to correct her stigmatism and therefore she could not get the surgery. I hope htat helps. I am not a doctor so please excuse the spelling...LOL.

Having to wear reading glasses is one of my concerns. Is that unavoidable after lasik?
I don't have to wear glasses. What they told me when i had it done was I might have to have reading glasses because your eyes change over time. Knock on wood I see fine still. Even if I have to wear them someday, its still better than the "coke bottle glasses " I had before.

I had it done almost 2 years ago and don't have any side effects (i.e. reading glasses, dry eyes, halos, etc)

I did have a small complication with my eye flap after surgery but wasn't a big deal.

I'd recommend it to anybody that doesn't want to deal with contacts.

What worked for me was not researching the doctors. What I did was research the machines that actually do the work. I found what I felt was the best, newest machine, and found a doc that used that machine.

Does it affect your ability to sight in a firearm or see something move in the woods during low light?
