Ok guys/gals Im sure Im not the first one or the only one to think "I would like to earn a living with cigars" so whats the best way to start? I have been a financial advisor for several years and earn a good living ( glad to just have a job in this economy) but I would love to get into the cigar business. I gues the easiest way would be to open a shop but that takes alot of capital and I dont think the banks are leading much start up money theses days. The other way would be to work in sales for an established mfg. but I am not sure if there are any openings.....anyway Im just thinking or dreaming whatever but I wanted your opinions on this....:thinkidea especially those of your who are in the business......

Bucanero might still be for sale!
Other than that, you pretty much gotta know people in the industry. From my experience, the cigar industry is very much based on relationships. I would hit up the larger tobacco companies with resumes or maybe look on their websites for job openings.
For example, here's the openings at CI: http://www.cigarsinternational.com/employment.asp

Like Tyler said it is a very tight industry and the better MFG's i.e. Fuente, Padron are probably pretty well taken care of... If it were me I would not want to be part of a company that sold shit stix i.e. you know who they are, they're pretty much marketing majors.

hey if you went to work for Gurkha, they would dress you up in really nice clothes, put you in a nice car to drive around. Only problem is that they would not train you how to do the job, or train you about thier cigars. Pertty much how thier cigars are. All dressed up, but dissappointment once you get them home.
