For some change reason, humi that was working fine suddenly can't hold humidity. I've changed the digital hygrometer and boths meters can't get past 58%. Any suggestions as to the problem? Will sticks survive at 58%? I am using Broveda pks at 65. Packs aren't two months old as yet but will change them ASAP. Tried with only beads and still can't get past 58%. Worried about the sticks!!!
Temperature is 70.:help:

in case you have you may want to check the seal on your humi but it seems odd that a humi holding humidity well would all of a sudden develop seal issues. Also how full is your humi if it has just a couple of sticks in it its not uncommon to have humidity fluctuations or misreadings.

If the humi is not full it will have problems keeping humidity. You can fill empty places with cedar empty cigar caskets. You can try a oust fan make sure not to use perfume. I have one fan in each humidor it helps a great deal. And as Daniyal said the seal could be bad. Try putting a piece of paper in the humi then shut the lid now pull out the paper it should come out but be kind off tight. Use a flashlight can you see light threw the seal

hope this helps Jim

Just bring them down to me and I'll store them for you:bouncetau. On a side note I most likely will be at El Humidor on Saturday night Feb 7th up in Wilkesbarre. That is if all things go well for me.

thanks. I will check for seal problems and change the broveda packs. If it is a seal problem, I just brought this humidor less than two weeks ago. Think they will swap it for me? It holds one hundred cigars, there may be about 40 in it right now.

use the Bovedas to calibrate your hygrometer.
if the packs still have a gel like feel to them, they are still good.
try supplementing the packs with a few Water Pillows

Have you by chance started running your heater more and the outside air is sucking more moisture out of the same seal? What's going on outside the Humidor could be very relavent to what is going on inside of it. If it can't keep up you may want to add a better seal, like put your humidor in a plastic bag until the humidity catches up and then not open it so often.

This may be the problem. Also what is a waterpillow.
Another question of mine is in a 100ct humi what size beads do I use. In my 50 ct i have a small beads from our vendor. It keeps that box at 70/65-68

do I need two small or one larger for the 100ct? Seems like I am answering my own question

This is typical in this region - this time of year is when the humidities effect on the humidor catches up. I over humidify - the loss balances things out & I maintain a 63-67 in both my desktop & coolidor. After you paper/flashlight-check the seal, you can calibrate your hygrometer, re-season, add humidity devices, store in a room that has a room-humidifier, etc. In the meantime while your figuring this out, put your sticks in a sealed bag & throw those boveda's in to make sure your sticks stay healthy & burning nicely.

Don't freak out though - this is common.

A waterpillow is just another temporary humidifying bag like a boveda pack, but has a small spunge-like material in it.

Beads - I think the rule is: use too many. because they regulate by adding & removing humidity (great for winter & summer). In our region I recommend 70% because it balances out to the mid sixties even in the summer.

Too many beads is the way to go and remember lots of surface area, so think shallow dish not glass to store them in. I like the mesh bags myself and I've seen stockings used more than once.

As for a watter pillow put a damp paper towel or sponge in a ziplock and leave the zip lock open about an inch or so. Not great long term as it can get moldy, but will be fine short term until you get your beads.

Sorry to ask but there may be a typo, did you buy the humi 2 weeks ago? Reason I ask is, was it seasoned properly???

I agree with Craig. I think that improper seasoning may be the problem. How was it seasoned?
Wiped down with distilled h2o one time. Did a steam bath of hot distilled h20 a second time and now tonight did a real wet wipe down again.
that should be enough don't you think

Guide yerself by the RH it reaches inside. Put a shot glass filled with distilled water and fill thehumidification device. Place the hygro in and let it reach 80%
