my girl was nice enough to buy me some (what she was told was) spanish cedar for me to make a few dividers in my tupperdore to help with humidity. my question is, after i cut the stuff down, and was seasoning it, i noticed that the grains didn't look like the spanish cedar in my desktop. is this stuff okay to use?

does it smell like grandma's closet? You do not want to use aromatic cedar.

yOU COULD ALSO MAKE THOSE DIVIDERS WITH THE PANELS OF BROKEN DOWN CIGAR BOXES.

no, it doesn't smell. it just looks different than the spanish cedar im used to seeing. i hate to just throw it away since my girl was nice enough to surprise me with it. i do like the idea of using old cigar boxes. i will stop by a b&m today to grab a few today (NO acid boxes however, haha). i'll figure out what to do with this stuff later, haha.

the thing that scared me was the dark areas. they were a little "sticky" when i first got the piece, but i sanded them down and they are nice and smooth now.

You may have some freshly cut wood there, in which case the sap may seep out for a while. You do not want that on your smokes.

The sticky stuff was 'bleed' and likely confirms the wood is Spanish Cedar.

The color and grain look correct

Beware that although you 'removed the sticky stuff' it can re-appear without anything you can do about it... [unless you want to let it age for many years]
