Well here's the scoop. I have a working solution however, I'm going to try to find a solution to make it less complicated. I will update when I figure another a cheaper more affordable solution. However, I can state that it does indeed work.

this is a good way to drive yourself nuts. I can imagine you guys going home early from work because the humidity level in your humidor dropped 2 points...imagine the panic.
I'm with you Ron. Seems over the top.

Hey kid. I love science. Science is probably, no truly is keeping my ass alive. It just cigars are funny things. They really dont just up and die suddenly in a humidor. It takes time and lots of indifference to kill em. It just cracks me up to think of someone walking around checking their Blackberry every few minutes to see if their humidity changed a few points. You just don't have to be that obsessive about it. relax and let them sleep. They will be ok for a day. Really they will. Trust me. :blushlove

gents, my brother is a software developer and has achieved what you are speaking of for around 100 bucks I think. the stuff was over my head but I will ask him to explain how he did it and update you. All I know is he has a little app that he wrote that displays current rh and sends alerts if it is outside of a set range. I will keep you posted.

Awesome, the software programming didn't seem the be the major limitation for this to become practical but rather the hardware. I would like to see what he has done though.

I have had people ask if Avallo could pull this off. Bottom line is we could do it. but i just dont think that its worth it commercially. would be fun for hobby purposes

Any progress on this? I'm interested in remote monitoring on my laptop. Don't need email or SMS alerts.

I've heard of people linking their hygrometers to their computers to gather data before, but not via bluetooth. Cool idea. If you invent it let me know :)

Welp I just ordered all my bits to start playing around with micro controlers and build a Bluetooth hygrometer for my humidor. The brain will be an arduino.

What do we think about the battery powered Cigar Oasis units? In addition transmitting the data to my computer I want it to control an active humidifier.

I know this is overkill. For me its an excuse to get my handsdirty in coding, circuitry, and hacking.

Update:

I decided to go with a battery powered wifi unit. The plan is it will post humidor conditions on Twitter every 2 hours. That way I have access on my phone and anywhere with interwebs.

Not sure if this is of any help, I have seen memory temp / Rh sensors that have a usb plug on them (like a memory stick). The data is down loaded into into your computer... not remote like you are looking for...but close.
I Don't think that would work because it has to be manually downloaded versus being read from a computer while away from home or etc

Thanks for the info it is still useful!!!
