i can't seem to get my humidor above 61-62%. the sticks are smoking well, and it's rock steady at that humidity, but would 65% make them that much better?

i tested it when i got the humi. (about 4 months ago) and it was 4% low on the reading, but maybe i should test it again. i just threw my other hygro in there.

I would think if the cigars are smoking well and the humi is steady then, you have a good situation on your hands.

Ok, first, in me opinion, 61%-63% is perfect; but, decide if ye'd rather smoke them like that. I know of people who like them at 58% (that I find excessive).

update. i put a hygro in the humi that was calibrated a month ago and reads accurate. it reads 66% while the other is at 57%. i guess it's just gotten worse. i have almost a pound of beads in a 150ct humi, so i thought it was weird. thanks guys. move along people. nothing to see here. :cjump:

Lol,,,actually you presented a valid question in that some people like their smokes at a RH of anywhere between 60 and 70%. I like mine between 65 and 70% but anything below tends to be a bit dry. Will they be ok at 60%? Everything I read says you would be fine but when you get into the 50's there is a real difference.

My basement is much cooler this year and the RH seems lower than usual. All sticks are doing better at this lower RH. Don't sweat the RH too much.

Down here in Florida I find I like 65% max, but the air I am smoking in is very humid compaired to most places. When I've traveled and ended up smoking the same cigars in very dry air, they don't burn as well and the taste changes. I'm sure 60% will not hurt anything for storeage, the place I've gotten most of my vintage cigars from stores at 60/65 if I remember right (not for smoking though). If they smoke well, I'd say who cares what the number is.

I don't know about these hygrometers. Sometimes they seem like they are reading well and sometimes they don't. MY sticks are doing well so I am starting not to panic when I see 70 deg with a 60 Humidity. I will panic if it gets to 55 or below. Can't seem to get gauges at the 65-70 Humidity even with beads, paks, etc.

I usually get it now between 61 and 62%. At first it would always be at 58%. I added a little distilled water in a shot glass and that was it, everything went good there.

actually 1/2 a pound normally. i just put the other 1/2 pound in to see if it would bring it up.
This is not a bad idea, if you have room. Extra beads, just helps the RH recover more quickly after opening the humi or maybe you add a bundle of dry smokes to the mix.
