As a lot of you know I hate Splenda always have and always will. I've always said there is not enough research out there about it.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—People like sucralose—the artificial sweetener marketed as Splenda—because the human body can’t break it down and use it. That means the substance has almost no calories and makes it a popular ingredient in everything from cookies to diet sodas.

Unfortunately, it turns out that modern wastewater treatment methods don’t break down Splenda either. That, according to Smitha Ramakrishna, 17, one of 40 finalists in the 2009 Intel Science Talent Search who’ve gathered in Washington, DC, for the final judging rounds this week, means that the sweetener can accumulate in the water supply after people excrete it, potentially harming fish and other living things.

When Kumar and I met Pete...(Pete and Kumar go to Denny's), Pete was all over the Splenda. Kumar erased all his post, but you might find a "Splenda Boy" somewhere in this forum.

Splenda is cool because you can put a spoonful in your mouth and it dissolves in like 1 second! It's pretty neat. Aside from that disgusting trick, I'm not much of a fan.

Must be rough not being able to eat bread or salami .... but those poisonous mushrooms sure taste good!

If my body won't digest it and waste treatment won't alter it, then it sounds like a pretty inert substance to me.

I love the stuff. I'm doing the Atkins plan, and have lost 20 pounds not eating sugar or carbs. Splenda is how I make my coffee sweet.

Splenda is okay if used in moderation. I am a type I diabetic and have been for 18 years. I follow a very carbohydrate restircted diet. Splenda is kind misleading though. It does actually have a type of sugar, Maltodextrin, in it as a bulking agent. Maltrodextrin will count as approx 3 grams of carbohydrate per package. The FDA allows companies to label things as "sugar free" if they contain less than 4 grams of carb. This maltodexrin will have an adverse reaction on blood sugars and will trigger an insulin response in non-diabetics. I use the splenda tablets. They do not contain as much maltrodextrin and will not cause such a rise in blood sugar levels.
