Found a great deal on these 2. Guy has either in a .40 for $450 and they are like new. I know, I should probably buy both, but I'm not gonna.:glassesgr

Anyway, anything I should know about one model vs. the other? I like the idea of the shorter 229, but the longer one points better.

The 229 offers you the ability to swap out barrels to a 9mm and sig.357 using the same clips. I have one in the 9mm version, and wanted to get the .357 barrel for it, but I started smoking cigars instead. I haven't even opened the lock box in 6 months. Might be time to take it for a servicing.

I have a P229 in .40 and love the gun! I recommend them highly! I also have a .357Sig ported barrel, and can swap barrels rapidly. You need to get used to a slightly different aimpoint. I'm not sure if the conversion between the 9mm and .357Sig is just a barrel change since the mags are different to accommodate different case size (.357Sig is a .40 case necked down to hold a .357 bullet, or about a 9mm).

Ive shot the 228 and loved it, havent shot the 229. Ive had problems with the 226 ejecting shells in your face. My buddy in florida had the same problem with the 226.

The 226 is slightly larger I believe, but the 229 fits in my hand nicely.

I'll have to check and see about the mags on mine to see if I can use the same one for all 3 configs.

The 357Sig and the .40SW can use the same frame with only a barrel change, the 9mm is not interchangable. The .40 and the 357 can use the same mag, but the 9mm cannot share.

Thanks guys . . . pretty certain I'm gonna go with the 229. That's what I originally wanted anyway, but the 226 pointed well to me.

The 357Sig . . . are those rounds hard to come by?

Owned and shot them all. . .the one I regret selling was a 226. . .However, it depends on your situation especially if you are going to carry. I carry a 228 now and love it. If you are going to carry I recommend the 229. If not, go for the 226. You will not regret the quality or accuracy.

The .357Sig is certainly harder to find than more common calibers, but the popularity is gaining due to the very nice ballistics, and if not for the mad run on ammo in general, it can be found. I haven't tried but I heard relading .357Sig takes time to get proficient at.

Carrying the P229 is only occasional for me. I will be picking up a P239 for everyday carry soon.
