1 - I get a popup, to convert my .wma songs to .mp3, and every time I click it, it pulls out 1,500 or so songs that are .wma, and goes through a process that's supposed to convert them, but when I look at the song in my library folder, they're still .wma.

I've "converted" the same songs a bunch of times, and still nothing.

What gives?

I've searched my external hard drive, they're not going there, and they're not on my :C drive either.

The popup is an iTunes deal. Then there's a task that runs on the left side that says "Converting .wma Tracks" and a screen of them being converted.

Can it convert them in iTunes and not put them back in my folder? Why would it need to run every time I sync my iPod? (iPod is a 2005 model 60G unit, no video)

I'm stumped.

FYI - I'm on a PC for now, I'll be going to a Mac this autumn some time I'm hoping. Tired of all the baloney with this darn thing.

2 - I've got a bunch of music files that are .mp4, and my player won't load them. Why is this? Does it think that they're video files?

Are you sure it doesn't leave the original wma files and add an mp3 duplicate in the same folder?

This is how it functions on mac's and I imagine it's not much different on pc's.

On Macs there's a key command that shows you where the audio file is stored that probably has something similar on a pc.

Try Command-R or other variations (the shortcut may be listed in the File menu).

There's a whole lot of music floating around in .mp4 format though, does that mean I need a newer iPod to listen to it on my iPod then?

It plays just fine in iTunes, and several other media players I have.

They're not there. That's the puzzling part. I just can't find the darn things.

Any other places to look?

I ran a scan (search) of my whole computer, and can't find them anywhere. Weird, huh?

That utility just keeps running, and seems to not be doing anything.

Gummi, anytime I have a WMA file (which isn't very often) I use a separate 3rd party converter application to turn them into MP3 files instead of using iTunes to do it. Then, I manually ditch the WMA versions out of my iTunes Library and then reimport the new MP3s.

Also...

When did you get an iPod? What happened to your Zune?

My converter program expired, and I'm too cheap to renew it, I guess I need to pony up.

I got the iPod a little while back, it's a hand-me-down from my FIL.

My Zune's just sitting on the bar in the kitchen, I need to get it sold, I don't think I'll use it anymore...

If it ever stops working, drop a stone in the front, if you hear it hit the bottom, simply add 1 gallon, then turn the crank until you see the glowing Apple and you should be set!

thank you william, this will come in handy for me as well. i'm still trying to figger out these newfangled eyepuds.

Check your Itune settings, so that you are set to convert files to mp3 (although I prefer to keep music files as AAC)

Someone mentioned you had a Zune. Did you buy songs for it through the Zune store thing? Its possible the tracks could have some kind of DRM on them, so itunes says its converting but it actually can't do it.
