I tried searching to no avail so I apologize beforehand.

I bought some Ultra Pearls, and now I just need to know how to correctly use them. Am I supposed to sprinkle water over them?

Thanks guys :peace:

An introduction would be nice.. but can't really tell you what to do here unless you tell us a bit about your setup and how you're planning on using the kitty litter.

Just put the KL in a bowl, put some water in another bowl and put both inside an air tight container (humidor, cooler, tuperware) with a digital Hygro and let the KL absorb the water. You can sprinkle water over them but I think this method works better for KL or beads.

Welcome to BOTL.

Welcome to the site. I spritz mine like regular cigar beads with DISTILLED water till 75% of them turn from their normal stat to being moist. Normal tap, spring, or other type of water has other additives or minerals that in time can ruin beads. Use distilled water first and foremost. They should have a set point between 66-68% from what I have seen from myself and many others. Be sure to have a calibrated digital hygro so your reading will be correct. Good luck, post other questions if you want and we will help best we can. Cheers and happy smoking.

Make sure they are all clear... no color pearls as well.

Petsmart no longer carries the Exquiscat Pearls that everyone used...

Thank you everyone for the great replies. I have added an introduction.

Cyrann - These are the Ultra Pearls and they actually have blue crystals in them as well. I emailed their customer support and they assured that these blue crystals are scentless and are used purely for aesthetics. They are colored from a vegetable dye.

Thanks again

you can use kitty litter as a humidity source?
I believe you're seasoning it so it has a humidity source. Like mentioned above, you could also set a small cup of water next to your container of kitty litter. The Kitty litter will absorb any moisture, controversially, that exceed in a higher humidity than 65-70%.

I've used it for a week now and was using the cup of water and container of kitty litter method and was keeping a fairly consistent 68%. I'm inquiring about seasoning it to see if it's better.

Do a search. There is awhole thread devoted to yea and nay. I use them in one of my cooledors and it has been a stable 65 to 68 for years.
Thanks Chuck. Found some more new info I had never known about.

I have used the kitty litter pearls in my vinotemp for quite some time. I just fill a disposable bowl with the kitty litter and spray on distilled water. The litter holds the humidity perfectly and one bowl lasts me about 2-months before I need to add more distilled water. Just as good as beads and less than half the cost.

I take this all from a friend who has 4 coolers wall mounted in his basement and only uses Pearls. He and his friends have banned the use of Blue Pearls from their coolers and only will use 100% clear silica pearls.

I am only relaying the info from personal experience.

Probably a very good idea. I ONLY use the original Pearl Fresh made by ExquisiCat. These are made from silica sand, oxygen, and water. If the KL has any additional ingrdients I could not vouch for how well they will work.

Cigarhew, the pet shop can only speak for how they will work for cats, I can only speak for how they will do for cigars. I suggest you stick to what works for others and stick to what works for others. I will send you a PM from CF2112 that he found the KL beads being sold.
