The only advantage is cost, they both do the job. I'm in the KL/Beads are pretty much the same camp. KL has a set point of 67-68% beads can be bought at 60,65 and 70%. For removing excess humidity KL is 10x more effective and to me this is the deciding factor. Ih the Missouri Spring/Summer months I need to remove humidity and KL is the only thing I've found that can handle the job. What is the advantage to KL? An inquiring mind needs to know.
This is just what I've found after years of using KL. You can knock it down to 65% by adding a little dry to the "set" KL, which I do.cf2112 -
Completely agreed. I didn't know about that 67-68% set point in humidity for the KL but I can confirm this is true because that is EXACTLY the humidity level in my coolidor. It holds it steady as well.

Once a month or more you have someone post a "my beads are not working" thread, I have yet to see a KL is not working thread (I bet we'll see one soon though). Of those who dis the KL I'd bet 99% have not tried it. 100% silica is, well, 100% silica whether you call it kitty litter or beads. A rose by any other name is still a rose.
Foam, beads, KL, a sponge, paper towel or an active system (Oasis, Set n Forget) all will keep your stogies at the right humidity with a little effort. Use what works for you and what you feel comfortable using.

KL beads are about 15 times less expensive.
KL cost about $14 bucks for 7 pounds.
Beads cost about $30 bucks per pound.
I currently have over 5 pounds of KL in service saving me over $140 bucks when freight to ship beads comes into play.
We are talking about silica sand, oxygen, and water here. I am going on 2.5 years with KL in coolidors with consistent results and stable RH. I for one am glad I tried these out and do not need to prove to others how effective they are.
