So today the Marriott I work at got robbed. It had to have been an inside job.
The head cashier, whos office is in the middle of the hotel in an internal stairwell, accessible only to employees. Even some employees don't know its there.
Today around 10:30 am (yes, AM) 2 guys came in, went straight to her office and at some point on the way in put ski masks on. They walked into her office, duct taped her mouth and tied her up. There was also another employee in the office to which they did the same.
Their timing was perfect (which also points to an inside job) because they came in before a lot of money was distributed to the cashiers and bartenders. The head cashier handles every dollar of cash that goes through the hotel. They cleaned her out, including the big safe.
There was a ton of cops, but most are useless. I guarantee these guys will not get caught if they don't blab their mouths to their friends.
Crime here this year (I think because of the economy) has been super high. Over 80 shootings since the first of the year. This makes me feel better about leaving. I feel the slow season (summer months) will be even more dangerous because of even less money to be made. Couple that with the fact we are over due for a hurricane (we got EXTREMELY lucky with Hurricane Omar last year. Was a Cat. 3 that was about to hit us then suddenly switched directions about 25 miles out). The last big 'cane to hit here was Marilyn in '95 and hearing stories of people defending their homes with shotguns in the aftermath...no thanks.
