The size of this cigar the give away. Initial appearance of the cigar is that of smooth leather brown wrapper. Inspecting the foot reveals a somewhat tight bunch. My thoughts turned to a plugged cigar but my expectations were somwhat alleviated when clipping the head. Although the bunch was full at the head, it still drew enough to pass as a decent smoke.

The first third is rather potent with lots of wood and toasted tobacco. Rather straightforward with the best and most interesting flavors being in the first inch and subsiding just as quickly back to wood and leather. There's still a rough and raw component to this smoke as if it's still trying to seek refinement.

The second third still has the woody toasted tobacco as its primary core however, there's a slight creaminess that's weaving in and out. Smoking this little beast slowly seems to draw the best response. The smoke coats the palate and the aroma is very pleasant. The gray, mottled ash is somehwat flaky but it holds on for a good two inches. The burn ring started out a bit rough but evens out and the beginnings of a tunnel starts to form. This soon corrects itself. After studying the ash a bit coupled with the overpacked tobacco, I'm beginning to think this cigar hails from '01.

The final third is more of the same except the creaminess dissipates and cedar sets in. Strength builds to a crescendo and is on the fuller side of medium. While not the most complex cigar it is still a good cigar. Paired this cigar with some fresh roasted Arabica coffee made it an enjoyable experience overall.

As I mentioned previously, the size was a dead giveaway. The woody and creamy profile was a dead giveaway. My guess would be a Hoyo de Depute from '01.

Nice looking cigar, feels very hard but upon clipping the draw feels fine.
The cigar starts woody and leathery with a slight sweetness. It remains this way for the first half. The draw is average the ash hangs on for well over an inch and the burn is good.

The second half starts a little creamier but wood is the main flavor. Earth and leather with a coffee undertone start the final third. The cigar was not the most complex but was good and I did enjoy it.

I did think Party Short before I lit this cigar but it had no spicy Party flavor. I rate it a 84 and guess HdM De Depute.

Nice looking little smoke. Cut well but the predraw was tough.

Took a bit to get it lit. Might have been a little too wet (my fault). Burned eratically and was tough to draw throughout the stick. Tastes were grassy and peppery. No real changes noticeable.

Really had a hard time with the draw and wish I had a poker to ease it up, but not. Had to set it down at about 2/3. Was getting dizzy from trying to draw it in.

I put this at about a 64/100.

I believe this was the HdM Depute.

Appearance: This cigar has a nut brown wrapper with some small dark veiny marks on it.

Construction: Very firm which makes me think that this cigar has some age on it. No soft spots or bumps in it. Cigar cut very well with my Xiker cutter and is ready to smoke.

Drink: Rum & Coke from the cigar lounge

Pre light draw: Had a dry woodsy flavor to it. Draw is going to be excellent.

1/3: Torched this cigar with my Zippo and it lit up very even. Upon my first puff, I was hit with a strong flavor of aged woodsyness. No bite or harshness at all. As I mentioned earlier. I believe that this cigar has some age on it. Cigar burns nice and even with a dark grey ash and draws well as expected.

2/3: The woodsy flavor is still there but it has mellowed out a bit, and now I can taste some earthy flavors as well. I would class the strength and flavor as meduim.

3/3: This cigar continues to burn and draw very well to the end. I still get flavors of aged wood, earth and now some bitter dark chocolate.

Final thoughts: While this cigar burns & draws excellent and was never harsh. The old antique wood and earthy flavors are not to my liking at all. If this is what you enjoy in a cigar, I would highly recomend it though.

My Guess is that this cigar is from the Hoyo De Monterrey line (which I don't care for) and the cigar is probably a Le Hoyo Du Depute.

Score: 86 out of 100

Description: #2 presented a cigar I’m not familiar with. I’d guess 4 x 40 – a mini lancero! It fetured a smooth cinnamon wrapper that glistened in the sunlight; perhaps a touch of plume!!
Easy clip giving a pre-lit draw of dry earth. Another tight draw, which did not affect the burn. Easy light and we’re off! I paired the smoke with black coffee and a Jacuzzi. Not a bad way to start my Saturday!.
The start was fairly ordinary with earthy, dried hay tastes. This was consistent and didn’t change till the 2/3 mark. The flavor became much fuller with a great lingering aftertaste. Rich leather took front row as the other flavors played a convincing support roll.
This cigar produced a thick gray/black “layered” ash and good deal of smoke from a little stick. It only required one touch up, about ½ through. It had an even burn, lasting about 45 minutes. My only complaint was that it burned hot. I gave it a lot of rests…. Medium-light body; nice flavor at the end. .
Verdict: I wasn’t too impressed at the beginning. It turned into a most pleasant smoke! I guess Cohiba.

Cigar #2 - 4-3/8"x40rg
Appearance - slightly pressed; perhaps cabinet lines, not box pressing?
Aroma - youth!
Flavor - This cigar was one of those 'let down' cigars. I cut into it and found the divot under the cap which, like so many others, makes me feel like I'm in for a good ride. That was not the case. The draw was tight, even after 2 days of dry boxing. The flavors started out allright. Very Nicaraguan woody tasting. The Nic 'zing' that DogwatchDale coined. The flavors seemed to fight eachother, almost like they were competing to see who was tasted. The stronger and more prominent was that of the woody taste, while slight sweetness & spice found their way onto my palate every once in a while. The draw contributed to burning under the wrapper as is so often the case with tight cigars and I ended up putting it down at about halfway.
It was not a bad cigar just not one I'd seek out. I like cigars that tend to have a good marriage of sweet and savory flavors, not singularly polarized. This cigar was not that. It was TOO one-dimensional; both in flavor and progression.

Rating - 60 - It was smokeable but I'd rather damage my health with something more enjoyable. I'd guess a 2008 Partagas Short. (which is too bad because these are usually terrific little firecrackers...)

Man, now that I read a couple of your reviews and think back about my experience, I'm kicking myself for not thinking Depute. It just makes sense.
