All I can say is wow. This is apparently flying under the radar, since I haven't read anything about it, but if this thing passes those of us who own firearms are screwed. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/text

Basically they are trying to create a federal liscense for owning a firearm, and it gives them amazingly broad power of enforcement. For example, they can inspect your home to ensure that your guns are stored "legally". Looks to me like they're trying to keep this off the skyline, and slip it through with no one noticing.

I wonder what freedom taken (if any) will spark the uprising of the people against it's tyrannical elected assholes?

This shit has to end but the uneducated, and unwilling to work don't care as long as the spoon keeps playing airplane towards their mouth with the free stuff.

This bill is dead as it stands right now. It maybe revived sometime later. It will be an interesting fight if it ever passes. I will never register my firearms and they can take them over my dead body. Since the Federal Government has no right to regulate firearms anyway I would love to see a states rights issue such as this go before the Supreme Court and our Constitution be upheld.

Damn, I completely missed in in Jan, was overseas without internet and never even heard of it. Sorry to treat the old as new.

No biggie, I am sure some others missed it the first time around as well, Mark...I'm just glad it sits dead in the water. ;)

For those of you that may not be aware of it, this dates back to 2007 and the tragic accident that occured....

May 12, 2007 (WLS) -- The Chicago Public Schools Board is offering a $10,000 for information in a shooting on a CTA bus that killed one student and injured four others.

Extra security was on hand at Julian High. Grief counselors were also there to help students deal with the loss of a classmate, Blair Holt, 16. He died of injuries from the shooting, which occurred on a bus near the intersection of 103rd and Lowe in the Roselawn neighborhood at 3:15 p.m. Thursday. The victim's father is a Chicago police officer.

As a long-time police officer, Ron Holt has seen the worst the streets can show. He says he and Blair's mom, Annette Holt, taught their son courage and leadership and that he showed that Thursday when he used his body to shield a girl who was in the line of fire.

"I'm so proud of him. He gave up his life to save another life, and I'm proud of him. And I love him," said Ron Holt.

This type of bill makes me very nervous. In the present environment it is liable to gain new life and pass before anybody realizes it has happened.
