I haven't posted in a long time but have continued to lurk and read posts. As a new cigar smoker, I find that I prefer lighter/creamier smokes such as the Rocky Patel Connecticut (Robusto). Can anyone suggest some smokes similar to this one? To further aid the suggestions, I did not really like the 5 Vegas Gold (Robusto) but can't really describe why. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Oliva Connecticut is a good one to try. It is probably bit fuller in flavor than the RP but still on the mild side of medium. Also, an Ashton Classic may be just what you're looking for.

I'd second that Matt... also the new Camacho Connie would be another close one, a slightly more body, but still in the same family.

I like the RP Connie as well for a very-mild stick. If you didn't like the 5 Vegas Gold, I'd suggest:

CAO Gold
CAO Black
Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne
Casa Torano Connecticut
NUB Connecticut
Oliva Connecticut
RP Vintage '99
Romeo y Julietta Viejo

For something a bit heavier, I really suggest:
Cabaiguan
RP Edge Lite
Perdomo ESV Connecticut
Tobacco Beaz
RP Vintage '92

Thanks for the suggestions so far.... I don't really mind a "fuller" or "heavier" smoke, I'm just not too keen on the "spicy" flavors just yet.

Glad to see these suggestions because I have 5ers of CAO Gold, RP Vintage 99, and RP Edge Lite on the way... should be here tomorrow!!

Thanks for the help thus far and feel free to keep any more suggestions coming.

For great value connecticut wrappers, Gispert and La Campina (the toro is the best size) are hard to beat. Casa Torano is also pretty tasty. The Camacho and Oliva Connies have already been mentioned, but if you like that wrapper type, you probably need to try them. If you don't mind paying a little more, try a Dunhill Aged Dominican. The churchill is the best size I've smoked.

I'm telling you, if you haven't tried the Camacho Connecticut it is a good smoke, real nice strenght but without the typical Camacho "bite".

I'll second the Gisperts. They sell like hotcakes at the shop. The oliva is great as well. I'm not really a connie smoker but I like those olivas. You can also give the Cusano 18 a shot.

Forgot to mention Perdomo Lot 23. That used to be my go to cigar. The torpedo is the way to go with that one.

When I was manager @ Empire Cigars, the Cusano 18 was probably my most recommended cigar.....9 out of 10 people that I recommended it to came back and bought them again.

yeah Cusano 18s are great.

other good Connies are Avos, PGs, Zino Platinum Scepters, and oh yeah, Davidoffs. :)

my favorite everyday Connie has to be the Perdomo Champagne. Super creamy with a little up front spice.
