YES! THIS IS TRUE! It happened to me at Wal-Mart (Supercenter Store
#1279, 10411 N Freeway 45, Houston , TX 77037 ) a month ago. I bought a
bunch of stuff, over $150, & I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was
handing me the bags. I saw a cash-back of $40. I told her I didn't
request a cash back & to delete it. She said I'd have to take the $40
because she couldn't delete it. I told her to call a supervisor.
Supervisor came & said I'd have to take it. I said NO! Taking the $40
would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn't paying interest on
a cash advance!!!!! If they couldn't delete it then they would have to
delete the whole order. So the supervisor had the cashier delete the
whole order & re-scan everything! The20second time I looked at the
electronic pad before I signed & a cash-back of $20 popped up. At that
point I told the cashier & she deleted it. The total came out right. The
cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be defective. Obviously the
cashier knew the electronic pad was defective because she NEVER offered me
the $40 at the beginning. Can you imagine how many people went through
before me & at the end of her shift how much money she pocketed?

This could probably happen at any store where they will give you cash back
so be cautious.

Just to alert everyone. My co worker went to Milford DE Walmart last week.
She had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried her along and
didn't give her a receipt. She asked the cashier for a receipt and the
cashier was annoyed and gave it to her. My co worker didn't look at her
receipt until later that night. The receipt showed that she asked for $20
cash back. SHE DID NOT ASK FOR CASH BACK. My co worker called Walmart who
investigated but could not see the cashier pocket the money. She then
called her niece who works for the bank and her niece told her this. There
is a scam going on. The cashier will ask for cash back and hand it to her
friend who is the next person in line. Please, Please, please check your
receipts right away when using debit cards. The store has the cashier under
investigation now. We can only
pray that she is caught very soon.

I am adding to this. My husband and I were in WalMart North Salisbury and
paying with credit card when my husband went to sign the credit card signer
he just happen to notice there was a $20 cash back added. He told the
cashier that he did not ask nor want cash back and she said this machine
has been messing up and she canceled it. We really didn't think anything
of it until we read this email. Please be aware

I am adding to this too! This just happened to me for $80 last week at the
Walmart on Lumsden in Brandon, FL. So it is happening close to home!
I think the cashier thought I wasnt paying attention, but I looked right at
the receipt, when she saw me do this, she said "here's your cash back".
I told her I didnt request cash back and to void the transaction. She said
she couldnt and told the machine has been doing that lately. I told her
that if she knew
it was messing up, she should do something about it. She said I would have
to take the cash and deposit it back in to my bank (I had used debit) I
was ticked
but was in a hurry, so I took the cash then went to my bank at lunch time.
I felt uneasy about the whole thing.. It seemed like she was up to
something.
If I wouldnt have noticed, she would have slipped the cash in her pocket.
There was nobody in line behind me.

Just thought I would pass this along, I know fellow BOTL'ers shop @ Wal-Mart from time to time. I call it the "necessary evil"!

Not to debunk this, but I dont believe it. I worked as lost prevention for walmart while I was in college. I know that walmart is run by a bunch of cheap bastards and they dont spend a lot on employees or the propper equipment. I know at the store I worked at, they only approved the purchase of four cameras for the store shopping floor. However, every cash register got a camera regardless. Like I said, that was the store I worked at and that was many moons ago. But walmart would rather you shoplift the whole store, rather than have a clerk rip them off.

I worked for retail security for 9 years...u would not believe how much this happens...also watch out when u use a gift card. If there is a remaining balance and u don't catch it...the cashier will toss it in the trash and pick it up at end of shift. I also had a few cashiers who were bold enough to load gift card on ur trans for $5-$20 depending on trans amount....they would use the same card for several trans and then take the gc at the end of the night...nice couple hundred bucks as long as no one caught it. But to the reatailers side of it...we have a lot of amazing technology that catches this crap and they don't stand a chance for very long...

I would normally agree (just because I am a competitor;)) but it happens everywhere...my wife was scammed at another retailer by a cashier at even another store ...

Some people are just born with that bone in their body and don't care who they hurt. all that matters in the world is them...we need to start chopping off hands like in other countries;) That will help with the problem;)

There ya go, being a smart-ass again
Ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

I cannot help it; it's who I am! :help:

But seriously tho, I don't shop at WAL-MART unless I find myself somewhere out in the country on a road trip and it's the only place to go. I doubt I've been to a WAL-MART in the DFW area more than two or three times in 15 years.

Same here man.

I can't stand the place, and if I ever enter one, it feels like the Twilight Zone....there are some really weird folk that inhabit those places.

Perhaps the moral of the story is to NOT SHOP AT WAL-MART?

:devilhead
I agree. They say in their commercial "Save money. Live better." But if you are saving money buy living off of their oven pizza's and other junk food you living better is not going to be so good when your health goes down hill. And then you are also supporting a store that doesn't always care about who they buy from with their clothing purchases from sweat shops. But what does it matter as long as the ignorant Americans will buy it.
I worked in one of their stores for a year and a half and I never had any training except with the register. I was asked many questions about hunting licenses and ran into a lot of issues with the organization of the stock rooms. So I couldn't do my job I was pretty much just a baby sitter for the money. And if the money wasn't there at the end of the day they had me to blame it on. I had also been accused of stealing 12 dollars and some odd change but they reviewed the tapes and never saw me pocket anything. I think the total was short and they blamed it on the newest person there.

This actually happened to me a couple of weeks ago at Walmart #1249 in San Angelo, TX. I used my debit card and the cashier handed me $20. I told her that I had not requested cash back and she showed me on the receipt where it listed the cash back. She said she though the problem was with the touch pad and that it happened from time to time. It wasn't a scam, just an over sensitive pad. I noticed that the pad would react when the stylus came anywhere near it. Now I am very careful when I use those things. A dishonest clerk could actually pocket the money. It was my debit cart and I can always use cash so I took it, but I can certainly see how it could be a problem in other situations.

And yes, I do shop at Walmart. Sure I'm a cheap so and so, so what? My wife worked at Walmart for 5 years and they treated her very well. She wasn't exploited. There was no slave labor. She made a fair wage for what she did. They did give her opportunities to advance. She was given an opportunity to join a class action suit after she left, and she refused because she didn't feel they had treated her unfairly. Big Lot's treated her much worse and you don't hear people calling for their head on the platter. Welcome to retail. Retail sucks. I did 18 years of it. Before that I did ten years of restaurant work. Restaurant's can suck too. It's the nature of being in the service industry. If you want to hear some stories I can tell you some.

Hey Greg,
Thanks for the suggestion! The reason I actually pasted the e-mail from my e-mail is because the mention of the Brandon, Fl woman was my aunt, this actually happened to someone I know, I thought it was kind of funny when I read from a co-worker who sent it to me...

But thanks for the suggestion
oh and btw Washington blows...:gangfire:
