Vacuum! So The wife spent $900 on a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner system today. To say I was a bit pissed is a understatement. She says the part of the demo that sealed the deal for her was when the guy put the pet attachment on it and he vacuumed the dog!!!! :angryteet

I know their sales methods are a bit....uh....suspect? And I don't know if the price is really worth is (but worth is dependent on what you value it at, and is a personal decision) but at the very least, you can take comfort in the fact that it is a very good vacuum that should last you forever and ever and ever. It's also a fairly versatile machine, so it can do quite a bit more than just clean the carpets.

I'd never buy one myself since I only have 1 small room with carpet in my house, but I'd surely consider one if I had a big house with lotsa carpet and a bunch of rugrats and/or dogs. And of course, if I had a spare $900 to toss at a vacuum. And if I could convince myself that it would be a better purchase than an Orek XL (which would be tough).

But in the end, you did get a damn nice vacuum.

Those jerks came to my house too. I played along till he handed me a piece of paper with the price on it and I asked him why I should spend that money on a vacuum and not a dirt bike. After that he got the point.

I hear that kirby vacuum's are real good but high price I think for the name. I have never used one but I think that dyson makes a much better vacuum and are definitely worth the money (no more than 500). My mother bought one a few years ago and it worked really good for picking up dog hair.

But I just hate how she pushes it so fast it doesn't pick anything up. I could go back over what she does and get twice as much hair out of the carpet. But what ever its her carpet her vacuum.

Yes $900 seems steep but I can vouch for how long they last. My grandmother still uses her Kirby she bought back in 1963. she has gotten it serviced at least twice. I know cause it's pretty heavy and i take it to the shop for her, charged her $30 each time.

I asked how much she paid, she doesn't remeber exactly but knows it was a lot cause my grandfather was upset after she bought it, but with eight kids running around she needed a good vaccum.

That's the feeling I get from the Kirby.

We had a salesman come over once. It was funny...I thought he was going to "clean" the whole living room. I even started moving stuff around to make it easier on him.

He cleaned one spot and I'd be damned if it didn't make a huge difference. I know for a fact that I had cleaned the area a few days before with a bissel.

Didn't make me want to buy a kirby but sold me on what a POS the Bissel was.

I don't know the laws of your state, but I believe in most states, if someone comes to your house and sells you something, you can return it within a certain time frame.
