16x12.

Just a random number I pulled out.

I would have to say it would depend on your floorspace.

This is something I would love to do!!!

I would give us some info on the dimensions of the place you have in mind or have purchased first to see what you have to work with. I think you will get better suggestions that way.

This is the first time I have ever thought about this topic so here is my two cents(Is is 'is my two cents' or 'are my two cents,' because in this situation i believe two cents is actually singular because i am not literally talking about two things?). First I would make it as big as I could. However, I would take into consideration how much stock I wanted to buy because I would want the humidor to be full, not leaving a lot of empty room making it look poorly stocked.

Again, so many things must be considered I could probably discuss this for quite a while. I am curious to see what other more seasoned smokers have to say.

I dont have a place is why i was asking what everyone thought so i could get an idea of what to look for. I am in college, i was just offered a great opportunity to open a B&M, so i am taking it to pursue my dream.

IMO, this is a huge gamble for someone fairly new to cigars and running a business.

1. Is this a brand new shop or are you buying an established business?
2. Online sales, walk-in or both?
3. Have you written a business plan? (I'm assuming not as the humi size question, along with tons of others, would already have been asked and answered.)

it really depends on amount of stock you plan to have. it doesnt pay to have a large walkin that is half empty. if you think that you inventory will be light compared to other cigar shops, you can go with display cabinets. Then once you can fill a walkin, then do it.

that, to me is sage advice! good way to limit your immediate costs! conservative=success these days!

i may be young but i have helped out another cigar biz move far. i know the in's and outs and how to run proper business manner. I am working on my biz plan right which is why i was asking about what size all of you thought so that way i could start to look for a place. As far as competition goes i have one other store that does not have what i am offering. First they mainly carry padron and fuente. the rest of the humidor is bare they dont even have a single tat and they say they dont them. second in the store i plan to operate i want a fully stocked bar and big lounge area with furniture and a t.v. to chill smoke and drink. as far as what i am carrying im looking at premium that i know sell but arent to expensive for now, then in a couple of good months i'll start picking up the bigger boys

That's a question that nobody on this board but yourself can answer. Many things need to be considered:

Amount of stock you plan to carry
Size of the shop you plan to have
Layout of the shop you plan to have
Online sales or just walk in

Some of these have been mentioned and there are going to be several other factors that will come into play as you get rolling.

Starting a cigar shop these days is a very risky gamble with all the laws changing daily.

Walk-in humis are never big enough. No matter how large you make it, you will run out of room. The simplest advice I can give you is to dedicate as much space as possible for your walk-in without compromising too much of anything else in the floor plan.

To me what's just as important, regardless of the size you decide upon, is that it is properly humidified and temperature controlled, especially since it will be in a very humid area; Louisiana.

The bigger the better. Too many b&m's have humi's that are cramped and jammed full of cigars. I personally hate that. A well organized walk in with room to move around in is best. When the cigars are neatly organized, it will command more attention from the buyer. Try to avoid the big cluster f--k that so many other humi's run into. Good luck!

I would say your biggest worry would be how much capital you have (and make sure that is not borrowed capital).....just my 2 cents:thumbsup:
