So I smoked my first Padron last night, a 1964 Torpedo. Although a very smooth stick I found it to have not much character to it. Its not that it was bland or anything I just didnt feel as though its flavor profile changed AT ALL during the 1 1/2 hrs. I had it lit last night. Overall I was disappointed with the 20+$ smoke and don't think I will give that one a shot again. All the 64's cant be like this right? Was it me, or maybe I just got a dead stick. I was REALLY looking forward to it, but kicked myself at the end for forgetting to bring my Tat Westie. I know once i smoke that westie that Im going to kick myself again for not buying anymore!!!!!

I will be honest with you, and say that the reason Padrons (esp the 1964) are so popular and good is the QUALITY of the smoke...When you smoke a 1964, you know EXACTLY what you are going to get taste wise, EVERY time. It is a high quality smoke that is a joy to burn...

There are some people who don't like the taste profile, and this is fine. But if you love them (I think the 1964 Imperial is one of the best smokes on the planet), they give you a great smoke every time...

Hope that helps!

That sounds reasonable, it certainly was not a bad smoke, the quality of the taste was good, just not great for that price range. With that said, I guess I'll have to try the imperiale.

Personally I don't think 64's are what they used to be. 26's are now far and away better to me. that said, they are not terribly complex, just good leathery chocolatey goodness.

I didn't like the first one I had either. I didn't like the first My Father I had, or for that matter Tat West Coast.

I would suggest revisiting it in 3-6 months.

I now love all three, unfortunately I, like you am out of em... Go figure.

The Padron 1964 Imperial Maduro is one of my favorite smokes (much better than the natural IMO). Was the one you smoked a Maduro? Also $20+ is a lot for the stick. They are $14 at my local B&M.

I have never had a bad stick from Padron (and I have smoke many) but it is not out of the question. When I was in Florida visiting a friend we smoked two 1926 #9 Maduros. We both had them sitting in our humidors for about 8 months. I purchased my here in SC and he had purchased two down in FL. Mine was excellent. He lit his up and after each puff he would get a chemical after taste and had to put it down less than an inch into the cigar. He got the second one and the same thing. I tried them both each time before he let them go just to see if I picked it up too and I concurred. Mine smoked and tasted great throughout the entire cigar down to the nub. He got a different brand stick out of his humidor and it was fine. He never had this problem and still doesn’t with any other smokes in his humi. This was very unusual and unexpected for Padron. It was the first and only time I know of someone having a bad stck much less two from them.

The two #9’s he got were the last 2 the shop had in stock from that particular lot. He contacted Padron just to inform them of the experience and they told him they would look into it and to expect a call from Jose Padron.

All that said, you could have just gotten a bad stick or they are just not to your liking. If it was a natural, try the Maduro and you may be surprised. Also you should be able to get it for much less than $20. The 1926 #9 I bought was $18 and the 1926’s are more expensive than the 1964’s.

Hope this helps some.

Up here in NE Jersey, of the 5-6 local B&M's Id say the average price of the Natural Torp is about 19.00$. The lowest Ive seen is 18 and the highest ive seen, was about 23 bucks.

Sorry, I was thinking the Imperial when I said $14. The Torp Mad goes for $15.70 per stick at one of the shops here. Still not $20/stick which would be a little steep for me too but like I said, you may want to give the Imperial Maduro a try before writing them off.

BTW, I used to live in High Bride. Moved down to SC about 12 years ago.
