Hey there... welcome to BOTL and to cigars!

Within the last couple months I am getting more serious into cigars so I'm sure there are some vets here that can chime in, but my opinion is that if you don't have a humidor, just use a good tupperware container with sealed lid to put your cigars in. You need some sort of humidification device and the easiest way to keep things in a stable environment is boveda packs that last 2-3 months or beads such as Heartfelt beads. You can go to walmart to buy a basic hygrometer so you can monitor the temp and RH level. Heartfelt also sells hygrometers.

I would personally buy the beads as they can last forever with just adding distilled water when needed. Make sure to use distilled water and not tap water. Go directly to heartfeldindustries.com as the owner is on this site and will ship them out right away.

You can put your cigars in the herfador immediately. If you just use it for one night or a weekend, you might get by without any humidification. But you can always put a little distilled water in the sponge that comes inside the lid or throw a boveda pack in there.

Good luck and welcome again!

for the HerfDor, you really dont need to do anything. I would not use the humidifier that is built into the lid. Its too close to the cigars, and can cause mold. If you are keeping cigars in there just for a few days, you wont need any humidification. The case is airtight, so it will hold the humidity that is already in the cigars.

If taking a longer trip, buy 1 of these... Humidipak ...it should last at least a year in your HerDor, and it is safe to lay right on top of your cigars. It is the perfect humidifier for an airtight travel humidor.

Regarding the rest of your collection, I would recommend a humidor jar. I have been posting a lot about them recently. I used one years ago, then recently started using them again. They are just the most easy to use humidor that you can buy. check out my blog post on

There are stickies that can help you out a lot. Here are a few I would recommend you read:

You should use beads. They can be put in any container and remember only use distilled water. I got mine from here and many others on this site have these beads too they work well.

Buy em in half pound or half pound. The ounce sticks are real good too then you do not need to find a container for them.

When it comes to storage for your stick I would get a 100 stick desktop humidor. Once that fills up. Trust me it will, you can get a cooler and make a coolerdor.

I have pics on my albums of all of this stuff if you want to look at those.

I concur with what the other brothers have said. A tupperware container with a Boveda / Humipak / water pillow will work just fine for ya. And using one of those items you don't even need to buy a hygrometer if you don't want to yet.

Just be sure you open it up at least once a week to let fresh air in, and keep and eye on the humidification device you use to be sure it's still got water in it (recharge using distilled or bottled water as needed).

As long as the cigars seem to be smoking all right, you're good!
