There are a lot of scams, but all it takes is a waiter to snap a pic of your card with their cell phone while they are running it. Sucks the world we live in, I've been nailed a couple of times using cards on line, now unless it's a big outfit I know, I use Funds Friend- it's safer.

It happened to me twice....about a year ago we were in a local eatery...the waiter was very polite and commented on how cute my kids were and he also provided excellent service...so I tip him 20% of the bill...later found out he stole my cc number...the cc company traced it back to that waiter, so I contacted management and he was fired. The other time was international...diff story...it does suck big time.

Saw a little spot on TV showing just how easy it is do scam CC numbers. The tv show actually had their 'waiter' scan the cards while at the table. The swiping dealio was done three different times right in front of the card holder, and they didn't even know it. There are some sneaky a$$ed people out there.

Sorry to hear about the fraud bro. Was this your credit card or a debit card/bank card? Either way it sucks, but the credit card companies are usually faster in dealing with stuff than banks are with replacing stolen cash, unfortunately.

I have seen how people are gettin battery powered card readers and swiping and storing the data. huge problem in the resturant biz. Waiter takes the card to swipe for the meal and then swipes it in his reader and stores the data. they can then download to a PC and either use the info or sell it. Sucks big time.

It was a PNC Bank Visa card. Credit/debit.

Same thing happened to me recently. I noticed a $1 charge on my card. I called the cc company and they acted like it was no big deal Said they didn't need to shut down my card. A week later another $1 test charge followed immediately by about $2K in charges. I called the cc company again, then they decide to shut down the card. I wasn't out anything, but why the hell did I have to be responsible for watching my account after I already alerted them.
They issued me a new card and since I was so quick to call fraud, I didn't have to deal with anything other waiting on a new card, which took 2 weeks to get here.

Gotta keep checking your online acct. everyday.

Best thing to do is contact the police, fill out a report and let them investigate. They might be able to download footage from security cameras from the stores.

They were all online purchases. I got the money credited back & got a new card. Now I just have to deal with the paper work. I hope they get this chump!
