I got my monthly subscription from a cigar of the month club today and it included a gar cigar which I had not tried yet. It looked awesome with an oily redish brown corojo wrapper that was just begging to be smoked. The first third had a strong, spicey, and peppery taste that reminded me of a DPG. The scond third has mellowed out but still has a full bodied taste. I still have the last third to go but so far I'm loving this one and need to pick up some more. I haven't heard much talk about these sticks so I'd love to hear from others that have tried them.

The only G.A.R. cigar that I have tried is the Vanguard....I loved it, I felt like the taste profile reminded me of Dion's Cruzado cigars.

I have enjoyed the GAR's. On some of them I swear I taste cinnamon.
Ive gotten Cinnamon out of them as well.... I REALLY like the GAR's.

I havent had any of Rico's Gran Habano blends though.

The GAR pops up on the Jambalaya pretty often.

I really don't care for the Gran Habano's at all, but the GAR's aren't bad at all, a little pricey for the stick - I can think of a few other I prefer that are less expensive, but not bad at all.

ps -I get the cinnamon too!

For the record, the GARs aren't really Gran Habanos. They're blended by George Rico, Guillermo's son, and are his first main attempt at a premium cigar.

I tried the GAR Vanguard for the first time last night. Nothing like the original GAR, I don't think I would smoke one again.
