Never been BoM
Aaron aka gibblenuts... I mean gibbleguts, sent me an incredible 5er during my B-day month. In the mix was a Vegas Robaina RE Canada that I have been dying to smoke. So today being my day OFF, the wife at the spa, I decided I was a good day to have a "Man Spa" day.
I dont do reviews, but if you like to hear it, here it goes...
Vegas Robaina RE Canada
Petit Robaina
Length: 4.375
Ring: 52
Drink Paring: LeinenKugel Oktoberfest
Constuction: 8/10
This stick was well constructed. The triple-cap was wrapped very "ol'school" Havana style. Looking at the wrapper, I noticed a few imperfections, but that is what makes it a Habano hand-rolled. In my opinion the stick looked fairly aged (i can check with Aaron), a few sun spots here and there, but the appearence was mouthwatering.
Draw: 10/10
Pre-lit draw: I used a v-cut (my preference) and the cigar pulled beautifully. Thcigar was already giving off aromas and flavors of cedar and pinenuts. I could not wait to spark this bad boy up.
Upon sparking it up, I was amazed on how effortless the draw was. Each pull filled my mouth with thick, sweet smoke.
Burn: 7/10
This Habano began to burn slighly un-even, however it self corrected towards the middle (sweet spot of the cigar). The smoke remained cool throughout the entire time.
Ash: 6/10
I was surprised that the ash didnt hold up so well... As soon as it started to develop, the ash began to lean. After the above pic was taken, I lost the ash, maybe it was the manner i was handling the cigar, but who knows. The ash had a charcoal grey hue to it, when most if not all Habanos that I smoke have a very bright white color to them. (If someone can explain the differences in the ash color, please do so)
Flavor: 9/10
At first, i was getting strong notes of cedar and pine nuts, however, after smoking the first 1/4 of the stick, the pine nut flavor transformed into toasted almonds. Since the draw was, in my eyes, perfect, The the smoke was bursting with flavors. The drink paring also contributed to the flavor of the cigar... the Leinenkugel Oktoberfest had a slightly potent hoppy sensation that may have overpowered some of the more subtle notes.
Overall: 39/50
This Regional Exclusive stick was surprisingly good. The draw was what I wish I could have with everystick I smoke and the fact that the cigar started off good and got better was also a treat. If you can get your hands on one of these (i beleive everyone in the Jr. B-day pass has recieved one from Aaron) grab one, spark up and enjoy... Just pair it with a coffee, tea or even water to enjoy all this cigar has to offer.
