I bought a couple of the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero 452s a while back because I heard a lot of great things about them. The one I had tonight was really well constructed. The wrapper was flawless and there were no uneven spots anywhere on the stick. It was tightly rolled and felt heavy for a cigar that size. Upon lighting it I found the draw to be a bit tight, undoubtedly due to the tight roll. The aroma off the foot was like that faint, sweet and floral scent that wafts by you while you're walking into your local shop. The problem I had with this cigar though is that it tasted like burnt maple leaves or something. Weird, right? And when it didn't taste like burnt maple leaves, it was bitter or there was no flavor at all.
My buddy wasn't enjoying his cigar either (Xikar HC Criollo) so I drove home and picked up a couple of Pepin sticks, a JJ and a Black. Two very familiar cigars that always put smiles on my face. While finishing up the Black I realized how lately I haven't been enjoying cigars that weren't Pepin made. I'm actually a little concerned since there are so many cigars out there that aren't made by Sr. Garcia. Perhaps I should hold off on Pepin cigars for awhile and just venture out a bit more.
Any suggestions?
